So we gonna act like the Pistons and Knicks didn't practically play a zone on michael and send a double to get the ball out of his hands based on where he was on the floor ala a zone defense?
Even then, when was the last time playing a periodic zone defense was even effective in today's game? The only time I can even remember a zone defense being the key to a playoff series was when the '11 Mavs did it against the Heat. I can't even recall a team doing that to KD, most teams play him man to man

No, the Pistons and Knicks didn't practically play zone. Did they double hard yes but they didn't play zone, and both teams experienced illegal defense calls which resulted in a technical free throw when they did watch the videos. Back then teams used to bait teams into zones by dropping the big man back and forcing a call.
Also, you're wrong all big time NBA scorers hate zones. It is prevalently used in some capacity in all NBA games today. When you think of zone you're thinking of traditional 2-3 zone. Even when it seems Durant is being defended M2M, he is seeing help defenders who are coming off their man something that would be illegal back then, he can be doubled off ball coming off screens something that was illegal back then. Back then you could only come off your man if you were committed to doubling. At least watch the first video I posted it breaks it down in detail.
