Jam master Jay had a huge influence on 50 style from 96 till his death in 02. 50 credited him on teaching him how to develop song structures and choruses. 50 was never a nwa product. not even after signing to shady/aftermath.

Was waiting to hear others weigh in, especially the yonger dudes.

To me, he descends from RUNDMC because Jay is the one who put him on. There are a million aspiring rappers out there. Until an industry heavyweight co-signs them, nobody knows or cares who they are. At least that was the case in earlier eras.

I disagree with the Dre part simply because when I heard PotD I said this guy is going to be next big star rapper. I felt he would supplant Jay or whoever was in the top spot. This was before he got shot iirc and definitely before signing to Shady.

lol, I knew of 50 before his deal with aftermath. sure he got big under dre but in terms of actual artistry he still would fall under JMJ

Whoever says that he's from NY and didn't knew about 50 before the Aftermath cosign is either lying or wasn't outside.

I was home in Romania back then but the Kazaa Lite, DC++, Mirc music chans and eMule seeds were popping with 50.

As mentioned, 50 came to Jay just rapping and didn't know how to put songs together, which he was taught. By the time he signed with Aftermath, he was a complete product that needed marketing and exposure.
