Whose side are we on? Customer comes into post office just before closing to ship packages

Zero justification for it. If you could only make 10 min before close, then wait until the next day...Your packages aren't going out until then anyway...You essentially gain nothing. If she's rushing around with her hair on fire she needs to work on her time management skills, and stop looking for employees to throw her a safety net. If you can't sit down and enjoy your lunch one day because you have to stand in line at the PO...Ah well...That's the cost of doing business.

I’m on the customer side, I never understood people getting upset that a customer comes in before closing, it’s your job to work until the hours of business, tired of these entitled workers these days, if you got a problem doing the jobs regular duties don’t take the job

I used to take customers even after we closed until my manager got at me and said don’t take any more

Or she could show up during business hours like she did and that worker could do his job. That’s the point of business hours. If you in the business at that time you are a customer that gets served. Scanning those packages not gonna kill him.

That isn't the point. She didn't show up with one package that needed to go out...She came in with 10 minutes left until close with a large volume of packages. That's in the same vein as me walking into a restaurant with a party of 8 right before close expecting to be served with a smile. Sure...I'm within business hours, but it doesn't make it right. Not only that it highlights a clear lack of social awareness.

a lot of People think "closed at 7pm" means, they will finish any and all unfinished transactions as long as you enter the building prior to 6:59.
If you operate by this logic, you never really close at 7. You actually close at like 7:15, 7:30 ect etc.

I used to work at a computer lab, and we let people know at 6:30pm that we don't "close at 7" we "finish closing at 7" big difference. means at 7:01 lights are off.

we would also lock the doors at 6:30 though which i think was his mistake.
Close at 7 doesn’t mean the employee gets to leave at 7, those are the hours of business and customers can come in and start a transaction all the way until 7 pm, you can then lock the doors at 7 and finish up with the customers still inside the store, the customer has every right to come in until 7 even if it’s last minute, if you don’t like that then don’t work

Can’t be out here making up your own times closing the door at 6:30 6:45 6:50 etc….some people driving from far places and need things done

She showed up during business hours.

I really don't like that we are just excusing poor business practices. It goes from people expecting a King's ransom as a tip when delivering food to thinking it is on customers to give them the last 10 minutes.

If they don't have enough time at the end of a shift to do whatever it is they need to close up for the day, take it up with management or implement a policy where you stop letting people in shortly before the target closing time.

He doesn’t have to smile but it’s beyond unprofessional to bytch at a customer because they showed up during business hours and asked you to do your job. Complain to coworkers after she leaves not to the customer themselves.

a business can operate however it wants. closed at 7pm, can mean you are literally closed at exactly 7. or you can start your closing procedures beginning at 7.

We elected to treat closed at 7pm as literally meaning we are not open at 7:01. So we would start our closing procedures at 6:30 aiming to complete the process by 7. Anybody in the lab prior to 6;30 can stay until they finish or until 7 whichever happens first. People trying to come in last minute to try an write an essay will have to wait until tomorrow. We actually had the computers automated to shut down at 7pm. So we would let know in advance like a last call.

nobody has a right (as you put it) to keep their employee after hours,

Edit: we were actually open until 10Pm, i was using 7 because of the example in OP

I used to work at a restaurant and hated when people came in 2hrs before closing because that usually meant we had to spend another 2hrs cleaning up before we can go home.

The customer is a hoe for that but I'm on their side because business is business, if they're open until 7pm, they're open until 7pm.

I personally wounded do that to anyone because that's a hoe move

If she was there 12 minutes before closing guy needs to stop complaining and do his job. You don't talk to a customer like that. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets fired due to his face being on video.
:mjlol: you ain't supposed to be recording in the post office building anyway, it be more likely that she gets banned and the only way he could get fired is if he was stealing, telling a customer to have they stuff together before closing won't do anything, the supervisor would tell her the same thing like he did

Maybe some rinky dink hole in the wall family run business, not a professional reliable business
