pointless to argue about, pointless to post about, pointless to write articles about, when the reason why is so obvious???

is it weird to say that by high school you already know what kids are special or not? local high school was mostly blacks and latinos but self-segregation happened in form of intelligence and AP classes that stuck together. Even though it wasn't really cream of the crop Ivy league intelligence, and most of these so-called smarter kids ended up with the same prospects as the normals.

Maybe the real problem lies in harnessing the power of those that show promise in these inferior segregated schools.

That's the real problem. Administrators and parents don't want to face the fact that only a handful of students in a black/Latino school are qualified to take AP courses. So you end up with classes being filled with students who need remedial-like instruction and the advanced students are robbed of a challenging opportunity.

Half of black students fail the AP exam. The states where a high percentage of blacks pass are states with low black populations like Hawaii, North Dakota, and New Hampshire. The kids in these states have to meet a higher academic bar before they are admitted into AP classes.

Another reason that top black students don't have better job prospects is that they keep getting admitted to elite schools with far lower qualifications than all other races. Unable to compete in STEM classes, these students graduate with generic liberal arts degrees.

Were schools ever really not segregated?

Maybe I'm biased because of how/where I grew up but it always seemed like people (and thus schools) tend to self-segregate. Amongst other causes.

1st Round Playoff Exits
My sociology professor is this 40+ year old irish white lady. She talked about how when she first came to our University to teach, people were recommending places for her to live and kept telling her the "urban" places she should avoid.

The CACs that told her that shyt thought she was on the same wavelength before she went:

"What do you mean by urban?":ld:

They were like "Ummm, you KNOW!!!" :patrice:

She whipped back "No actually, I don't know. Do you mean places with black people? :aicmon:"

They were quick with the "NO, NO, I'M NOT RACIST!!!! I'm not telling you about good places to live at here! I have nothing against black people." :merchant:

She responded "Why did you recommend me places AWAY from black areas for? Is it because I'm white?":leostare:

She told us they got quiet after that but she lives in an ethnic neighborhood and her children goes to school in a majority black school. The town my university was in was VERY racially segregated and she thought it was disgusting. She was from up North too so it was a culture shock for her to see southerners who were so comfortable with being openly prejudice like that. :skip:
Go ahead let us know what city you're talking about breh :aicmon:

I don't blame them for telling her to not live in black neighborhoods. Most predominately black neighborhoods have much higher rates of violent crime and other societal ills. But for some reason liberals like to say there's something wrong with pointing out a basic fact of life.

I agree. I went to a very diverse high school and at lunch kids would self segregate under racial and socioeconomic lines. One section would be whites, another Spanish and another black. Middle section would be the blurred lines of black and spanish. It made me realize that as we got older we seek our own. Elementary school we were color blind. By middle school we developed social groups. By high school we reflected societal norms. It's sad in a way.

Go ahead let us know what city you're talking about breh :aicmon:

All I am gonna say is that it is in the bible belt, rural south and there are even places MUCH worse than the area my sociology teacher is at. Infact, the other surrounding areas are much more conservative and racist.

You damn near have to live within relatively large cities in the bible belt if you aren't white or a republican to escape the bigotry and rampant segregation. So many rednecks and nearly every white person is a republican in the rural south.

I grew up in the city and even though it wasn't "We Are The World" in terms of racial harmony, there were a lot more cohabitation and interaction between races than I noticed when I left to go to college. It was not unusual to see an Asian family, hispanic family, black family and white family live on the same exact street without anyone noticing growing up for me. I wouldn't say racism didn't exist but it was VERY difficult to lead a racist lifestyle and stick to your own kind. That shyt simply doesn't exist in the rural south and people would often "stick to their own kind" when going to school, choosing housing, making friends, etc.

I even had to break up with one white girl after she told me if her mom ever caught wind she was dating interracially she would be CUT OFF permanently from her entire family. Her parents were even sketchy about her hanging around black people too. Her family was from a small rural town. Sad world brehs...:sas2:

Nah but giving poor kids the same quality of education as rich kids as well as having a mix of socioeconomic levels is proven to benefit the poor kids

It's not about "making poor kids rich" its about equalizing the quality of education and socioeconomic opportunities

im all for equalizing education, im just not for using segregation is a measuring stick

if you want to discuss strategies to get better education incertain areas then lets discuss that but using forced integration as an education strategy is silly, and the notion that the government is going to go around telling people what school they can and cannot go to is suffocating
