Expectations too high for what common reality actually is in this country.
And if you want to actually REACH those high expectations/American dream shyt you're fed from birth, unless you're born into it, you have to work your ass off and essentially become a sociopath to get there, so you end up miserable anyway.
TBH I think American culture is DESIGNED to make the average citizen depressed, so that they'll just accept working for other people.
And then there's the nutrition angle. The food here is shyt, everyone is eating processed garbage since they were little kids, and the whole country is obese. Even when I was hella broke, I wasn't even THAT sad because I was in great physical shape. Then I started getting some real paper, but I let my physical health deteriorate somewhat, and I actually felt worse.

They can't make the connection between their "mental health" and the evil they practice and harbor. 

they need to be thankful they have money to do whatever they wanted, they have freedoms most of us will never have... and they STILL miserable about it...
