Thanks for posting. I didn't realize this. Keziah was popular and in use in the 1700/1800s by both black people and white people alike. It makes sense that Keisha would come from Keziah which was biblical.
Nigerians/Ghanaian pull the same thing when they name their kid Success or some crazy shyt like Blessings Prosper Adewale.
i get into it constantly when a black person turns their nose up at black person with a black name or be like “wow why did their mom name them that”.
its weird to me because every other race’s culture can be displayed through their name. but black people cant have that or its looked down upon as being ghetto.
never heard of mexicans saying they have to name their child Tom so they wont have to worry about getting a job. i know we get profiled for our names in interviews but we have to put a stop to that influencing how we want to exist in this world imo. what are yall thoughts?
I just wish the name "Neveah" would leave this existence forever. The name is nowhere near prolific or unique.

^^^Those are black names.

We are the only people penalized for naming our kids. I don't see anything wrong with "Ghetto names". Why we can't be different and create names that we want without the negative connotation behind it? I think most of us is just brainwashed into thinking anything we do is wrong
White people look for any reason to discriminate against us and nikkas in here cosigning this bullshyt and making it acceptable SMHBruh stop it, shyt is all around stupid

XotchilThere are Indigenous names that are looked down upon by other Latinos though - there are far more likely to be whitewashed Latinos here in the U.S. who ignore names like Maatiaak or Itzamatul - or seem them as names of the poor too.
Most groups that have assimilated into white hegemony have adopted traditionally Anglo names.
Are what you refer to as black names really black American names or is this a class thing?
If i had a daughter i would name her Keisha or Porsha i like those names. I also like the names Vanessa and Emily
for a boy i like the names Antonio, Lorenzo or Renzo (sounds cool), Cam'ron, Tyreek, Anfernee

WHATS A BLACK NAME?
SOMETHING LIKE JERMAINE & JAMAL?
OR YOU TALKING ABOUT SOME shyt
LIKE DBRICKASHAW & LEQUANTEZ?
It's goes back to the history of language and words.
The meaning behind letters and accents.
This stuff is no longer taught.
When people are no longer educated on the use of the meaning behind the language they are using. Then you will end up with what we have today.
All of this is a results of the dumb down and lack of knowledge of today's society.
Especially, in the ignorant subculture of the Black community. Where the education and knowledge of self is at an all-time low.
