There's no such thing as 'pure African' (genetic diversity) and they aren't Black. They have had their own ethnic groups for millenia. Calling them Black is as disrespectful to them as us going to Ghana and declaring ourselves to be Igbo or Yoruba simply because we look like them.

Black people come from Africans, but are a unique ethnic group unto ourselves. Different history, culture, philosophy, heritage, language, etc.​

The only Dominicans that I encountered who deny their African/black ancestry are usually the light skin ones. The ones that are undoubtedly black (nose, hair, etc), usually acknowledge it.

Most Dominicans aren’t dark skin though. They come as pale as your cac neighbor, so your point is kinda moot .

I just think people can't get past the idea that a Dominican is gonna claim their country first before they identify as anything else. It's a fundamental difference that causes all this stuff, so while there are older Dominicans who have colorism issues, there are people who are just tryna differentiate between a Dominican and an African-American and it gets lost in translation. Even lumping in Dominicans with other Latinos is cause for us to be like "yeah that's cool, but we're not the same as them." If there's a Latino specific issue, many Latinos will assume you're talking about them, but Dominicans will be like "be more specific."

Yep same here in the Midwest, I’ve met Puerto Ricans and Mexicans but never Dominicans.

Dominicans are Eastern seaboard people. Granted, there are Dominicans who live beyond the Eastern Time Zone, but not many. You gotta be no more than a 4 hour flight from DR.

Ime, they have the same complexion range as we do. From what i gather, for varying socio economic reasons, the very lightest and the very darkest tend to remain on the island. We end up with a population skewed toward the middle, fba 'ls' - fba 'brown skin'. Then, theres the steady lightening program, so depending on when or where you view the process, youll see different phases.
