Why aren't Middle Class/Upper Middle Class blacks taking advantage of "gentrification"? Or Are they?

they would, but they are afraid of being called c00ns on the coli
I would really like to see more black people out in these parts and in more major cities where things are happening.

I feel like sometimes, that in this globalization era of the 21st century, black people aren't reaping the benfits of it and probably will never.

For example Westside of ATL literally has the bones to be the new Black Wallstreet. You have tons of nice homes /spots that can be renovated. Area for manufacturing, various Grade Schools, and 3 PRIVATE higher learning institutions in Clark, Morehouse, Spelman. You have ease of access to midtown, downtown, buckhead if you want to continue the corporate thing also.

There really isn't. I'd say upper to middle class black are less than 5% of the black American population (it feels like it...).

The thing is you have blacks who are middle class/lower middle class paying more to rent, or paying bigger mortgages in the burbs than they'd have if they gentrified neighborhoods.

I believe the goal is for Cities to be completely hipster/1% type, while the outer burbs is where all the blacks/crime is, and being that the crime wouldn't be in the city it won't even be a PR issue as ATL, NYC, LA,etc can brag about non existent crime while the burbs are war zones. I think non blacks who can't afford to live in Cities will continue to move out to more rural exburbs ie. Woodstock in GA.

They're already moving to places like Buffalo, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc...

I agree with you though. It seems like the end game is to push black people almost exclusively to the south and midwest into suburban areas.

The problem with that? They simply move crime from one area to another and urban blight becomes suburban blight.

Like, crime in New York is at it's all time lowest point, but crime in areas like Newark, Patterson, surrounding areas that were once "the burbs" has skyrocketed.

For those that are interested...look up "revanchist gentrification".

This is the type of gentrification that's really going on in New York. Revanche is french for "revenge".

Basically, it's about the children of the white flight generation going into cities and reclaiming them for themselves from the hands of blacks and hispanics...

This is my thing, even when blacks move to the burbs, they build nothing and simply just live there. When all of the legit businesses close down because of white flight, they complain about how wack the area is instead of building, and move on to the next burb. If Blacks want to live in the burbs or wherever cool, but at least build a community. For example there is a burb in Metro ATL called Douglassville, its majority Black yet has a majority white gov. The ironic thing is blacks pass up on prime land because its "hood" move to the burbs and get a 6 bed room house for that they dont need, then complain about things like traffic.

IT MAY BE the same thought process as when Blacks left the farming life of the south for the industrial north. Farming and the south in general reminded us too much of share cropping and slavery. The cities remind us too much of crime and poverty from the 60's 70's 80's & 90's

I tried and I did. :win:

For the past 2.5 years, I looked and put bids on a number of spots here in Los Angeles. A lot of spots around East Hollywood, Highland Park, Adams Blvd, Inglewood and Baldwin Hills had some nice deals going.
However, I was outbid by hipsters and investors who would pay straight cash homie. Or maybe they saw me and went to another bidder, who knows?

Also, when I tried to buy, the seller had my offer along with 20-30 others. I had 100K saved up with a 800+ credit score and these cats were like, "naw."

I ended up getting a spot in the heart of a re-gentrified Hollywood after setting up a meeting with an agent before he had the open house. It was a brotha and the first time meeting I was like "my African, you know what time it is.:myman:"
Got the spot and I wasn't even the highest bidder.

The only problem I see with trying to chase where the black people reside or can re-gentrify is that we as a people seem too nomadic. :mjcry:
I want to live in an area like Harlem, off Cascade in Atlanta, or Baldwin Hills but a lot of times, black areas become Spanish, then white after a few years because we're too busy trying to move to the 'burbs
or wherever white people live.

My neighborhood (Pleasant Grove) in my hometown of Dallas was 90% black when I grew up. Now that shyt is 90% Spanish and the majority of brothas have moved to the suburbs
while gentrification is happening back in the hoods (South Dallas, Oak Cliff).

Yea in the 90s most blacks I knew moved out the hood and to the burbs, white flight happened and former white burbs became black suburbs, the issue was blacks didnt build a damn thing in these burbs + the mortgage crisis with folks getting stuff they couldn't afford, so many of the "hot" black burbs of ATL for example went down the drain when the bubble bursted, while white burbs in northern ATL were literally unaffected. I ask myself, in ATL for example, when they started tearing down projects after the Olympics, why didnt we set up shop in the intown neighborhoods? The only thing I can think of is the City didnt focus on cleaning up crime until whites moved to the former hoods, and the crime and such were never fixed just pushed to the outer burbs.

What people don't understand is that many of those mortgages in the burbs were fukked anyway. Middle Class white folks are even better than us at faking the funk. There are so many people in this nation in mortgage/credit card debt that its sickening. So you had a buncha black folks trying to go and keep up with the joneses and snatch up property that was shyt to begin with, in areas with hyper-inflated infrastructure (most burbs depend on the big city for water/power ect.).

Black folks are also stuck on this notion that black business has to serve some black clientele or have only black goods...and thats where it fails. What makes so many small white businesses grow is the lack of attachment to some underclass or subculture. It might sound like c00n shyt, but when it comes to making money, let the culture and social awareness come later....have good products, get your business in the black first.

It seems mainly White people do the whole Urban Pioneering thing, why dont young well to do blacks jump on the same wave? I know in Atl there are parts of SW ATL that is being "gentrified" by Middle Class blacks, but it still pales to how whites are gentrifying every other part of the city.

For places like Harlem, BK, parts of LA, etc. Why do you think middle class blacks abandon these areas, then get mad when Whites set up shop?
Gentrification is a plan designed by a conglomerate of wealthy men. Black people don't have the money to fight it. Cac sanctioned violence lowers value of the property. Cacs map out the blocks they will set up for commercial business. Property is bought, renovated and prices are raised that hipsters move into. This area can no longer be lived in by people under a certain pay grade. Buildings are bought and businesses are set up. Value of property goes up everywhere. People sell homes, chunks of abandoned homes are bought from the bank at auctions and more cacs move in. Last remaining residents hold out for the last cash out and it's a wrap. Economic barrier keeps black people from moving back in
