Especially males...
Especially 8-12 grade...

I mean, since the black youth is always a huge topic of discussion and how white people aren't helping them, why aren't more black people trying too become teachers so they'll be with those black kids a lot?

I would like to be a high school teacher. So, after I finish up at my current position, next step is to become a high school bio/chem teacher and a linebacker coach in high school.

On the real my goal is to become a high school principal because there are not that many black male high school principals.

I would love to be a high school or middle school gym teacher, summers off, tell kids to play basketball and you go sit in the office and watch highlights of USC or something

Why do or teachers need college?

I'm in college right now to become a teacher but I really want to be a counselor one day. I think a good counselor really is what makes good high schools and good students how they are.

The profession is high stress and low pay. I had a guy friend that became a math teacher, taught for a yr at a local high school, and then quit. He said that he got too close to going to jail cus of them damn kids. Now he works in sports management and is much happier. :ld:

It's definitely a huge problem with multi-faceted causes....the academic pipeline to graduation, entry and retention in higher ed & graduate school, certification testing issues, and also aspirational goals. Like being a teacher isn't glamorous, and you're not gonna be ballin' out. I went to a after-school career fair in Harlem last year and sat on a panel with a MTV intern, a Wall Street corporate dude, and a photographer. I got the least questions out of the bunch. Comparatively speaking, I had the least interesting job to those kids.
