The profession is high stress and low pay. I had a guy friend that became a math teacher, taught for a yr at a local high school, and then quit. He said that he got too close to going to jail cus of them damn kids. Now he works in sports management and is much happier. :ld:

Yeah... You gotta actually care about kids to do anything in education

He did and still does care, but teachers have to wear too many hats with these kids now a days. for him the payoff wasn't outweighing the bullshyt that he had to deal with. Sucks tho

I'm in college right now to become a teacher but I really want to be a counselor one day. I think a good counselor really is what makes good high schools and good students how they are.

I'm from South LA and I can say I only had 3 black male teacher from elementary school to high school.

Since your in school my advise is to go to teacher fairs and network with the employers there; even if your not a junior or senior. It's really building relationships. If you see a brother there go and ask for some assistance. He will help you unless he's a tom; also getting a degree in a STEM major will help your stock value.

I'm telling you from experience because I did it; I had teaching jobs lined up for me in Chicago, Louisiana and North Texas; but my school fukked me over. It's all good.

:salute:

The school system really needs more black male counselors who can connect with the black, at risk children.

There's more black teachers than you'd think, but they're mostly in the Elementary grades.
