You can't enjoy it because you are 18.

You haven't lived enough to understand of appreciate it. Revisit it again at 25+.

2pac was 18 with the life of a 25 year old when he was 25 he lived the life of a 40 year old.

Lots of 90's artist sang about real adult shyt. I was just listening to this song by Lauryn Hill. shyt is timeless. It was deeper than the shallowness of a lot the songs you mentioned that were surface level deep. Many 90's artists lived their music. This song is a check point of why Lauryn never released another album.

How does that even make sense? Most people got into 90s hip hop as youngns growing up in the 90s.

Lol I'm 20 and it's easy for me to enjoy stuff from the 90s.

Bingo. That's exactly what it is. Most of these dudes don't really like rap nor have an appreciation for rap as an actual SKILL (putting words together to convey a message).

Alot of these dudes are more into the images and lifestyles of these rappers more than rap itself. They couldn't care less about the actual skill and intelligence it takes to paint a picture with words. Give them a rapper with a cool image, a hot trap beat to blast in the whip and a catchy melody and they're good.

OP brain would probably explode listening to "wordy" rappers like Talib Kweli, BlackThought or Royce

i've been saying this trap/mumble/melody shyt has to be a new genre. it's not consistent with Hip Hop at this point and half the artists (let alone the fans) even want be called rappers or MC's

You like them animated or with melody so DMX,busta rhymes,2pac,bone thugs, snoop, outcast, mystical would be more of your style. If your gonna get to the other stuff listen to NaS:trillmatic: He got songs with a gun rapping, prison cells rapping,an early 2000s song being told backwards, music videos of him on a cross beaten and bloodied and other creative shyt like that.

Nothing wrong with bars and nothing wrong with melody ... You could argue that musically hip hop is better now ... Sonically it's improved and the music even from soundcloud artist sounds professional asf........ That said 90's hip hop still was grittier .. the street element .. The imperfections that made records actually perfect
