Why can't I enjoy 90's hip-hop?

Is it really that hard to enjoy stuff before your time?
It shouldn’t be, because great art stands the test of time.

I’m only 26 and I love hip-hop from the late ‘80s and ‘90s, more so than anything that’s come out on the radio these last few years. Hard-hitting beats and great lyrics are what I got into hip-hop for and you tend to get more of that than in ‘90s rap than anything I hear on the radio today. But I get the feeling that’s precisely what you’re calling boring.

Because you're trying too hard to understand it and feeling like u have to live in that moment. Just appreciate good music. Who cares about the era? Heck even if you don't understand something, you got the genius to break lyrics down or just ask someone on here.

It's not about age it's just what your brain likes to hear

A lot of us at 18 had different taste than him because I'm sure our hip hop climate was more about saying something

I'm 25 and hip hop still gets me excited like a kid

I threw on Bizarre Ride in the whip yesterday and as always it was a blast to rap through

Raw came in my iPod and I ain't even know I had it. When a dope song comes on I still get that "holy shyt" excitement.

I can't get into all that swag rap though. Thugga is an exception but I need to understand what's being said for the most part. Even if it's another language at least make your words clear

Nope. Drake and kendrick gonna be the oldies. Walk around the house quoting them nikkas for my kids.

17 here and without sounding like one of those attention seekers, if you can't appreciate 90's and now then you probably don't like the art rap as much as you think you do. Maybe because I have older brothers and grew up watching MTV Base I might have had a different experience but pretty much all of my friends listen to both. Both eras are full of great artists.

18 years old.

I been making my way through Jay-Z discography. I like Reasonable Doubt but vol 1, 2, and 3 are hella boring to me.

A lot of Wu Tang songs sound really boring to me.

They're just bars. There's no real melody. I'm sure if I printed out lyrics I'd appreciate it, but they don't sound fun to me. Fun songs to me are like Drake - 4PM in Calabasas, Kendrick Lamar - DNA, J.Cole - Neighbours, Vince Staples - Big Fish, etc.

I like some 90's songs like Ice Cream and Atliens, but I can't listen to a full album cause it gets boring. 4:44 >>>>>>> any Jay-Z album for me. Is it really that hard to enjoy stuff before your time?

Lowkey I think vol 2&3 are trash aswell. Vol 1 is great if you skip the obvious shiny suit attempts. . Would suggest Doggystyle, ATCQ, It was written, Ridin Dirty,The Blueprint,Hell On Earth, 7 day theory, Resurrection and Diplomatic Immunity. Will give you a good entry level to all regions.
