its targeted for younger kids who might have been affected by the 3D. younger kids break the hinges on DS'. also, its made with a single screen underneath it because its cheaper than two screens. its not a successor to the 3DS, its just a cheaper more child friendly option.


obviously seeing alot of studios close and after the Tomb Raider shyt its pretty clear that there is something wrong with the budgeting behind some games (unless of course your game is GTA). its one of the reasons game engines get recycled so much and successful franchises get ran into the ground these days, cause thats a cheaper more predictable way to make AAA games without needing to start from scratch. i dont think AAA titles are going to disappear completely as many of them are still profitable, but i do think nintendo is playing a different strategy in not pushing for the most graphically advanced (expensive) game development. it worked for them last gen which is one of the reasons why they were able to make such a great profit while the other two struggled. a difference this time however is that the other two consoles are far more similar to PCs in architecture, which will help streamline development on those systems. its a bit of give and take but i think nintendo could still come out well if they can shift enough units.

personally, i think nintendo should have different games in development for each character in smash bros. that game could be such a big marketing tool in boosting hype for each characters own game. i mean, really, people who play smash bros become familiar with the characters and would be more inclined to buy games featuring those characters. it just makes sense to me for each of those characters to have their own new game.

Nintendo is planning for the long term and give gamers great games without breaking their pockets. The reason why they weren't online heavy back in the GameCube days because online was slow and expensive. Now in the Wii U era, its cheaper and more efficient. Like you said, Smash Bros would be a great tool for other franchises to thrive in the Wii U and Nintendo needs to play their cards right. There are More 3rd Party characters in the Smash Bros. Wii U, so Hopefully the likes of Capcom makes a new Mega Man game and Konami puts on a MGS game on the Wii U without breaking the budget.

Even Capcom is close to its doom due to crazy budgets that they can no longer afford. The gaming industry needs more efficient ways to develop great games for cheap or else everyone but a few will suffer. The standard PS4/ X-One shyt is gonna kill off the remaining mid-sized 3rd party companies since gaming is going out of control with all its 'requirements' (DLC, online play for 64 players, voice acting, etc).

Like other dudes said, Nintendo is stuck in the past, but I won't say they're done yet. They just need to take different approaches with their games. A lot of what's holding them back is to put actual VOICES in their games. Sure the characters won't be the same, but that will be for the better IMO. Most games nowadays that do well have decent to engaging plots involving the player and other characters. You can't do that with them one word phrases, weird sounds and noises them Nintendo characters be making. With everything as cinematic as it is now, you can't have just the game speak for itself.
