Funny thing, is that no show has imagery of black culture nowadays. No Muhammad Ali pictures, no MLK/ Malcolm X posters, no poster of classic Hip Hop albums or movies. Nothing. We been stripped of everything that we made, yet again. Now all we have left is ratchet culture and young kids that think that it is cool to party like animals and have nothing to show for it.
The element of surprise in my opinion was one of the best things about MTV & BET during their primes. You actually had to "catch" a video on & would also get introduced to new artists & songs just watching videos. I remember cats would be at school like "did you see the new Jay-Z video?!" And you had to go home & flip back & forth between MTV & BET waiting for it... it could take hours but you would watch some dope videos in between & gems you hadn't heard or seen before.
As much as I agree with you that it would be nice to bring back some countdowns like when artists had their personal Top 25... I think these younger attention deficit disorder asperger low IQ short attention span instant gratification era fans wouldn't have the patience for it & would hop their asses back on YouTube & our generation wouldn't be enough to sustain ratings for such a show...
Exactly... these kids aren't even aware of their own cultures history anymore. Seems out generation was forced to know where we came from & understand the struggles of the likes of Muhammad Ali & MLK & Huey Newton & how we ended up where we are now. It seems they're trying to dumb the entire culture down & hope they forget the past. It's difficult to find someone under 18 now that has seen movies like "Mississippi Burning" or "Panther" let alone even know who Huey Newton is. It's sad... & 20 years from now it could be way worse...
Many of the 90s and 00s babies scare me. Especially the black ones that refuse to learn history and think that color and our history is no longer important. At this rate, we gonna be forgotten in less than 10 years. Too many of them acting like Wiz Khalifa, all smoked/ liquor'd out thinking that all this shyt is cool and only caring about fukking hoes and getting (small) money
