you know something tho.

i think BET at its peak was that period after the viacom buyout but before all the extra viacom influence.

those first 6-12 months when BET was still BET but with major money.

it was pretty much the GOAT station.

New generation doesn't think that, breh. they think all that "beef" shyt is bad as opposed to realizing that battling has been a part of this shyt since its inception and that a battle and beef are two different things

Blame Fif for ODing on that and making it stale and predictable.
Mainstream black culture isn't currently strong enough to keep supporting wack wannabe so called modern R&B and turn up rap music.

Trust, Viacom will throw that show in the bushes soon....

nikkas will cry again saying we never can have shyt...

We did this, we don't respect the culture or arts and crafts.

...and we made millions and still don't own shyt...

Welcome to the new age.

Black culture been on the ropes since 2006 when that rockstar shyt started.

Have you noticed that there ain't been any monumental Hip Hop films where cats rocked that Jim Jones shyt? lol

Let's be honest.

Rap city was built and based around NY hip hop. You had to embody the actual foundations of what the hip hop culture was all about. You had to have some form of skill to even freestyle on spot.

Around 2005 was the age of the complete southern takeover. You didn't have to have any form of skills, just being a hustler or character was good enough.

Viacom saw that as easy money. They promote the south more than any other region even till this day. They helped dumb down a culture. Ours babies don't even know what the foundations of hip hop are. Are babies are lost.

Plus, it didn't help that ny was beefing with ny.

Y'all should be happy rap city is gone to be honest, the music since 2005 all the way up to now is so disrespectful to what the show was actually about.

Rip Rap Titty.

That southern takeover was crazy in itself. I remember back on the :hamster: when the old NY cats got mad as shyt when the stations played Jeezy, Boosie, Gucci Mane, the Texas Movement and so on and left the east coast in the bushes? Man, the powers that be even used Fif as a pawn to tear down other NY rappers when they needed unity the most.

Nearly 10 years later, shyt is going to happen with the CAC invasion in rap.

Yep, Jay and 50 should be happy. Goodbye old NY.

I loved that Show, used to watch it all the time before... :beli: ..well the point is that I really wouldn't want to see Rap City existing in this Day & Age of Rap/Hip-Hop.

Funny thing is despite how lyrical dudes have made a comeback in popularity (Kendrick, Cole, Wale), the radio still pushes 808s and snares on that southern shyt, despite most of it never selling like that. Why are they pushing a format that has trouble paying the bills?

They know what they did/or doing.
Dumbing us down is far worth more than money.

Funny nowadays where a marginally talented R&B dude can get all kinds of  reaction. Imagine if a young version of R. Kelly ever got shine in this day and age? :heh: Everyone would have a heart attack.

But R&B bee shytted on too because people don't like to sing about love anymore. People rather sing about the club and fukking hoes. The Club is the new religion.

I thought a lot of people were complaining about Rap City being a bad influence on black youth and BET caved to the pressure. The black community is so much better now that Rap City is gone, right? :stopitslime:
