Above the fray.
He played with Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart and Donte DiVicenzo at Villanova, and he’s clearly the best out of those four, yet he’s the only one who was a 2nd round pick. He was the National Player of the Year as well. Even Jevon Carter was picked right before him in the second round. Was this a case of NBA scouts valuing “potential” over results?
The obvious answers of height, weight, wingspan were already listed.

But will also add that individual teams draft based on their needs and who is available that year.

A slightly over 6 foot , stocky , non athletic player isnt exactly what any team dreams of signing or figures that they can plug in to help improve their team.

You never know with college players who wasn’t broadcast all over how they might panned out

Manu 2nd round pick, Gilbert was a second round pick, Ben Wallace and some others
Gilbert slipped in the draft by saying dumb shyt in the interviews like “I wanna be an international pimp.”

I get what yall saying about scouts focusing on potential and all that (I basically asked the same thing in my original post). How come Jevon Carter was taken before him? He’s shorter, older and he wasn’t no damn college player of the year.

if You're undersized most likely you're getting drafted late first to second round. VanVleet, Isaiah Thomas, Draymond, Norman Powell. Brunson. Unless you got decent athleticism,. Correct me if i'm wrong but Chris paul was undersized but was athletic coming out of wake forest, had elite handles and defense right?

TYRONE GA!
Better question is how did the Mavs let him get away when it was clear he could play a little?

The Knicks offer blindsinded them. He wanted to stay with the Mavs but they offered 4 years/55. He wanted a little more but they wouldn't budge. Then Leon Rose and World Wide slid in on some

Was a different era though

6'1 raymond felton was taking after him and 5'9 nate robinson was also a first round pick that draft

NBA has to have the worst scouts out of all major pro sports

:heh:

Like 1% of 2nd rounders make it. And by make it, I mean spend at least 3 years in the league. So they are extremely accurate identifying the 15-25 players each draft that worth a damn.

They’re also pretty anccurate at the top, just miss on the exact order.

What really throws a wrench in things is you’re drafting 20 year olds and have to project what they can do, vs drafting a known entity who is what he is. If you’re a bad team, it’s often better to take that upside play. A 24 year old 3&D is not helping your 20-62 ball club.

Brunson was known entity and all signs pointed to him not making it at all let alone being a star

Yall are naming the 10 2nd round picks of the last 20 years that made it :heh:

It’s frighteningly accurate that if you drop to the 2nd you are not making it. It’s probably like 95%. Go to any draft page and it’s nothing but guys playing in Guangong

Ray was seen as strong as an ox with elite PG instincts, passing and IQ. Nate was a generational athlete for his size and scouts figured he could still get his at the next level because of his athleticism.

Brunson from a physical and athletic standpoint looks like a YMCA or church league player.
