Why Didn't Dragon's Dogma Become Popular The Way Dark Souls Did?

Dragons Dogma did not really get a heavy push when it dropped. I got the game originally but more people caught on once Dark Arisen dropped. I think the gameplay is more engaging than Dark Souls and Skyrim. The feeling of chipping away at large monsters was very satisfying and multiclassing was super fun and flexible. Also the Pawn system was amazing and different.

There were only a few flaws but they were major.

Fast Travel was a pain in the ass because you didn't really get it until about 75% into the game
The graphics were just ok with the exception of the monsters
The framerate when the action got hectic was a little choppy

I think if they can clean that up in DD2, Capcom has a classic.

I got "Dark Souls" on PC and it looks like ass. Which is fine, I don't judge a game by it's graphics....but it looks awful. "DD" graphics aren't going to win any awards, either.

I prefer to play "DD", for what it's worth.

with DS you need to use dsfix on PC or it will render at 720p (even if you select 1080p+)

dsfix also has some other options to make it look a little better

I liked dragons dogma and felt it really made rpg action very engaging and you could feel the grandiosity of moves and enemies unlike the RPGs. I love dark souls series and bloodbourne but I've always wondered why they are rated and universally acclaimed. Trust me I love these games but the action is pretty clunky and in any other video game with action it would be criticized heavily. The series lack a direct narrative and story that is so vague and non existent and yet people don't care. Any other series off of these two merits would not be rated higher than a 7/10.

Agree with this.

People were shytting on the combat and controls of "The Witcher 3"....and rightfully so to a certain extent....but they were saying they wish it was like "Dark Souls".

So I started "Dark Souls" and the combat and controls didn't impress me at all. Maybe the later games play better.

The combat in dark souls is about limited mobility with a simple but fair set of rules that are universal for both players and enemies. Its about knowing enemy placements, movesets, your own moves and movement, and managing your stamina and spacing between enemies. And if you mess up the game punishes you harshly. Someone said they laugh when players compare it to fighting games but the groundwork of dark souls and fighting games are very similar. Its why PVP is do damn popular in those games. Its a simple way of playing a fighting game without having to memorize combos, while also having the option of a huge PVE component

Ya. Pvp itself is a huge metagame where dudes are exploiting all types of mechanics to improve their strategies

Dark Souls looks boring to me.
Im thinking it got hate because Capcom made it. Its cool to hate Capcom:ehh:

:mindblown::what:
Its possible that folks think the soul series and BloodBorne are just better games.

You dudes are tripping. You're acting like people who like souls games HATE Dragon's Dogma. Everyone I know who played the Souls games from the start, unlike folks in this thread "I took a look at them and they LOOKED boring to me :stopitslime:", also played Dragon's Dogma. The biggest souls fan I know in person told me about Dragon's Dogma way back when it first came out on PS3 before folks started sucking its dikk on PC.

As a fan of Soul's games, I liked Dragon's Dogma. I don't understand why you dudes are trying to make this false narrative that people who like Dragon's Dogma and the Souls games are somehow on opposite side of the fence. :wtf:

Also again, the souls series and Dragon Dogma are not the same type of games. People talking about story and shyt when Soul's never marketed itself as a story driven game. Again its more of a dungeon crawler game which is based on simply going through a world and defeating mosters and exploring (hence the title dungeon crawling, as in crawling through paths and different areas) while games like say The Witcher and Dragon's Dogma are much more driven by the story.
