Melo had a character concern . we didnt want to ruin the chemistry by drafting a talented nikka who would challenge veterans. :mjlol::deadmanny:

Dumars made a right decision at that time or so he thought cuz we desperately needed a PF who can defend who wont be needed for a year or two cuz we got a win now team:russ:

Lesson we learned - you start over thinking shyt it will come bite your ass eventually :heh:

Never heard about character concerns with Melo...

2 reasons:

1.) darko was by far the 2nd most hyped player in the draft outside of lebron.
2.) darko played PF, and that was the pistons biggest weakness. they didnt trade for rasheed until midseason after they saw darko wasnt chit.

melo is unapologetically hood.

thats automatically a concern for most teams, regardless of your actual character.

i dont know if that was a factor for detroit in particular tho.

Darko was apparently killing workouts and could do it all on the court. Even though Melo won an NCAA championship and was MVP of the Final Four as a freshman, the feeling was Detroit felt they didn’t need a SF since they had Tayshawn. Obviously Darko wasn’t the player they thought he was (even though players on the team said he used to kill in practice). Another thing is, Rasheed actually joined the team around the trade deadline, so there was actually a need at PF prior to that trade. Another reason Darko might’ve been a bust is because of Larry Brown. He never liked playing rookies and he may have killed Darko’s confidence.

Why Portland draft Greg Oden instead of KD??

front offices being stupid that's why

This is not the samething
Exactly. Oden would’ve been great had he not been hurt. We saw him kill Noah and Horford in the championship game as a freshman. Although Portland didn’t have a star SF, the feeling is they were a center away because they were really lacking at that position and thought Oden was the missing piece.

Just my opinion, but if Mel had character issues I feel like the rest of the Pistons woulda checked him real quick and he would've been cool and humble, yet still ball out.

Can you imagine Carmelo with the Pistons, that squad would have been crazy!
That team won a Finals, went back to another one, and lived in the ECF for years. Why are we acting like passing up Melo cost them a dynasty?

Larry Brown wasn't gonna play Melo. Y'all should be thankful Melo wound up in Denver.
I understand that the NBA fans were really excited hosting the Hornets because of Katrina, henceforth OKC being a good place for an NBA team.

My question is do you think Seattle will ever have another basketball team because their fans were lit and loyal, plus in my generation they were always very talented. Seattle loved the Sonics, I know they have other teams but I do hope they get another NBA team.

how u gone have a WNBA team but no NBA, like wtf
:why:

They're gonna get another team. Someone has to die first though.

If I had to make a conspiracy theory I would say the Pistons had a message from NBA to pick up draft bust so their team wouldn't become too strong :mjlol:

That's about the only explanation I can think of why Dumars picked bum ass darko when a fukking Melo, Bosh, Wade were available.

Then why didn't Darko fall to the Raptors then.

Anyone asking this clearly doesn't remember the Darko/Euro hype. Dude was supposed to be the next Dirk, back when a 7 footer shooting 3s was still cutting edge. I don't know why folks always focus on Melo when an even better player in Wade was also passed on. Young Wade on those Pistons wins 3 straight chips minimum. Not only makes the Pistons better but eliminates the squad that knocked them off in the East as well.

They knew their history with big men..KD was CLEARLY the much better player, even in college

don't agree with y'all, at all!

I dont think anyone faulted Portland for that pick and at the time it didnt look bad at all. the NBA has changed since then and bigs like Oden wouldnt fit in the current NBA as well today......but at that time, shyt. he was almost cant miss. one thing execs weigh heavy (no pun) is the size of players. No questions about Oden there but there were serious concerns about how much weight and strength could KD ad and maintain his fluidity. his body and skill set was rare and had not been seen before so he became a prototype after the fact. at that time though they were thinking his body couldnt hold up against the pounding from NBA players. if anyone was thought to be more injury prone it was Durant just based on his body build alone.

I dont see how compares to Melo. I clearly remember before the draft and during their rookie seasons, there was chatter and debate about who was or would be better melo or bron. If I was exec, I'd take Melo...but if you want to justify Pistons drafting for need, thats the only leg to stand on because clearly on draft boards Melo was the best player available even if Wade and Bosh did turn out to have better careers. Kaman was better, but even though he was German, NBA execs have weird obsession with Euro league players coming to the league.
