Community College is a great option to save money. I got enough to money to go to a four year university, but I would have to pay for some fees and a portion of my room&board out of pocket. In addition to that, fees change yearly and I did not want to deal with the struggle of not knowing how I'm going to pay for a class. I enrolled in CC and never paid over $2,000 a semester. I have an A average GPA and I'm almost done.
I think part of the stigma comes from being told that you HAVE to go to a university and experience life and etc. I am glad that I did not go to a university first. I met great people, developed great connections, and got a lot of opportunities attending CC. Plus I am $0 in debt. When I get my bachelors I will be $0 in debt. Most of the people I know who went straight to university are at least $5,000 in debt by the end of their first year. I always tell people to attend CC first and transfer. Now if you have a scholarship that covers EVERYTHING and gives you at least $1,000 back each semester then go to university. If I could do it all over again I would still go to CC. My cousin went to CC maintained a GPA above a 3.5 and transferred to a good university with a full ride scholarship.
Gon try to do this

If I were to do it again, I'd definitely go to community college for 2 years and then transfer.

I don't care what career people think they are going into. Student debt is out of control and at some point it just is not worth it.
Community college is a great way to get started while avoiding tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

I think the issue for a lot of kids is that they want to get away from home and going to a local community college feels like "13th grade" rather than college.

You're almost certainly a damn fool to go to a big school and take on all those loans. You're gonna pay for the rest of your life, simply because of the nature of American society...

Graduate HS.
Go to college. Graduate with an average of $30,000 - $40,000 in debt.
Get a job, have fun in your 20s. Meet a girl/boy...date for 4 or 5 years. Get married.
The average wedding costs between $25,000 and $30,000 depending on where you live.
And after people get married, they want to buy a house. Tack on another $200,000...minimum (and significantly more in some areas).
Then you have children...Similac and diapers aint cheap. They say the average cost to raise a child from birth to age 18 is roughly $250,000.

But I know.
You'll get a great job and you'll pay off all those debts and loans and it'll all be worth it.
I'm sure it will be.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 6.03 percent of individuals over 18 and only 19.9 percent of households had incomes of $100,000 or more in 2010.
And if you're a minority....those percentages are even worse.

I know.
You'll get your Masters degree and you'll have a leg up.
Smart thinking, breh.

Average MBA cost is around $40,000. And it can go well over $100,000 in some cases.
More debt.

But if you work really really really hard and eat Ramen noodles 3 times a day for 50 years and never take a vacation or allow yourself any vices....MAYBE...you'll be able to pay that off about 6 minutes before you keel over and die.

:wow: you ethered this broken system.

School been a scam, even if you do STEM majors. That's what happens when unions are gone from the workforce.

My mom refused to send me to a local CC cause she didn't want me to fall victim to the distraction of high school associates. Plus she knew most of the people who attended CC dropped out after the first semester or the first year and she didn't want that stigma rubbing off on me. Got accepted to other CC's hours away but she just felt like a 4 year college would push me more. The 13th grade/just going to CC to chill effect is real.

Dad is still hot about this day cause he wanted me to go to CC to save money and she wouldn't listen to him.

That shyt is true. Most people go to CC and stay there for 4 years or more and have no intention of finishing. Luckily, I took CC credits in 12th grade and determined to never look back.

Mostly this. CCs are full of kids who did poorly in high school or just finished their GED, single parents, people who dropped out of college, older people, and people who just got released from prison.
I went to a CC while I was in high school to get college credit and the level of stupidity in most classrooms is painful.
And part of it is the marketing of college, CCs are not fun to go to, the atmosphere of colleges is supposed to be fun, relaxing, a little neurotic during final exams, and a time for everyone to grow up. Its sex, drinking, and parties.
CCs are just bastions for a lot of people who have already started failing in life and are trying to stop the slide.
That's not to say they aren't a useful resource, and if you go there specifically to do well and transfer to a highly ranked 4-year school then more power to you, but the vast, vast majority of people are going to CCs and dropping out in a year or less.

That ether that makes your soul burn slow :damn:
