the NBA is probably the most goody 2 shoes league there is but Murrica stay callin it "thug league" :heh:

NBA really probably is, hockey is pretty clean too, or maybe you just never hear of that shyt.

I think that malice at the palace thing was just a big black eye on the league and idiots who wanted to go the race route did the thug thing.

Baseball always has wacky stories, like a dude goes back to El Salvador and cuts a cabbie's head off or some shyt.

:what: how dumb are you? 16 times a year. rethink that son

yes. i LITERALLY meant 16 times a year.

not that they have huge amounts of downtime even compared to other athletes.

you have millions and a bunch of free time.. trouble is pretty much inevitable.

This happens in college football too. Every year, some group of players is charged with armed robbery / burglary (I think some Auburn and Alabama dudes were doing this), TCU players were dealing drugs, bar fights all the time, etc.

i wonder if it has anything to do with the extreme structure that's football...
other sports don't seem to be as structured and intense from peewee up, they have a little more relaxed approached to things. I'm guessing these cats don't know how to act when they aren't taking orders

Yeah man, I don't know how anyone could think NFL players only work 16 times a year.

The only days off you really have is Saturday and maybe Monday during the season

what are you even talking about right now? you sound stupid as fukk right now.

obviously i know they don't show up on sundays and start balling. :childplease:

we talking about PRACTICE? football practice during the season? :aicmon:

the season is 5 months long. practices during the season aren't shyt. they're not banging around like that. they gotta save their shyt for games.

after the season ends, they're free pretty much until august disregarding otas and whatnot.

they play less games. they travel less. they're off 2/3 of the year.

are you really trying to tell me they don't have free time?

get the fukk out of here.

I see the point you're trying to make...but they aren't off for 2/3 of the year...that's just silly

During season they work 6 day weeks...the fact that you believe that practices are all they do...and they aren't doing weight training and conditioning and everything else that goes with being a top tier athlete tells me you haven't carefully considered your argument

just because they aren't banging each other around like it's a game every day...it takes many hours per day to be an NFL player...there's playbook study...breaking down film...knowing the game plan plus as I mentioned earlier all of the exercising and training that needs to happen so that you maintain peak physical condition to compete at that high level

and lets say most teams seasons end in that last week of December...although some play through January...but for this argument we'll make that last weekend of the year the last week for most players.

OTAs start in couple week bursts in May...but you can't just walk into OTAs completely out of shape...most NFL players start gearing up for OTA s in April...so the reality is they are "off" from January through March IF they don't make the playoffs

now there's no math in the world where three months is 2/3 of 12 months

add in the fact elite athletes even on their "off" time aren't treating off time like you or I or the average person...they aren't sitting on their recliner and watching sports all day...they aren't eating potato chips and playing video games all day

nah...most of them are adhering to offseason workout programs to stay in a modicum of shape so they don't have to grind so hard through OTAs to get back into great shape

is it more free time than other pro leagues? Sure...a little...but you have to understand the physicality of the game has most players spending their entire offseason recovering from injuries...injuries most people never knew they had...injuries that just are part of a game that requires you to hit someone else on every play

so yeah...I'm not buying the "free time" argument

you're right that it wasn't a theory that i really thought out. i was just throwing it out there. nobody really knows why nfl players get in trouble more often.. or if they even really do get into more trouble.

my only point was that money + idle hands = trouble.

even if they only have a little more free time than other athletes.. that's more time to get into trouble. and that's considering that these athletes are 100% focused on their sport, which is obviously not the case.

the football schedule just allows for more fukkery.

shorter season, less travel and up until recently.. HUGE money for even the rookies.

anyways, it's really not a big thing to me. my first statement was extreme but i figured people would understand what i meant by 16 times a year.

off season is too long. most of them have nothing but free time from January - July.

i said LITERALLY in my second post after you quoted the first.

i put it in caps to REALLY drive home the point that you missed the fact that i talked in hyperbole.
