A lot of people spend more time at work than at home. And then some people ain’t shyt at home. Meanwhile you work your way up in a company and get comfortable and you actually have status over people and think you can run it like it’s your home.
This dude was a compliance manager in the group and took is job as the “cop” of the company too serious. But he loved having that power. A few years ago he got fired because in a meeting with other higher ups on a zoom call told a female manager to sit on his face. I know he can’t go home and tell his wife to sit on his face so I don’t know why he thought coming on a call with other big wigs and doing that was going to fly. But dude was just too comfortable.
Some people just have a lot more going on at work than home. Family be damned. :yeshrug:

Most folks need it to survive

If the work week was reduced to 20 hours I'd spend significantly more time with my family

It's that simple for a lot of people

They get fulfillment from work and if they're lucky they may also get wealth. I never been wired that way, I literally only work because I get paid to do so. Some people get dopamine hits from achieving shyt at work and being recognized and celebrated on a corporate level

I only say this because I just seen Condoleezza Rice on TV at the Broncos game and it dawned on me that I don't even remember what her position in the government was. So I looked her up and also saw she was an only child. Never been married and no kids.

So she hasn't had a living parent for 25 years.
She doesn't have any brothers or sisters.
She doesn't have a husband.
She doesn't have any kids and grandkids.
That shiit has to be hella lonely.
Rice is an outlier probably a bad example to use. Like you said you saw her at the Broncos game, Rice is part owner of the Broncos and iirc was one of the top candidates to be NFL commissioner at one point. Her being a workaholic lead to all kinds of connections and relationships. Yes she has no family but when she dies it's likely more people will attend her funeral than all us commenting in here will have at our funerals combined

People do get too comfortable. A few months ago we had one of our tech guys call our female VP a whiny bytch on a group teams chat. Everyone was complaining but he took it too far.

Nobody from the chat even told management, but by the end of the day , the AI automated censorship system isolated the text and sent it straight to hr :russ:

Now if you know anything about the current tech job market, that dude seriously regrets not keeping his mouth shut. :wow:

Everyone should ask themselves, "why am I here?" Thread seems adjacent to that question.

IMO, work is just your vocation or how you earn money. Human beings are too complex to be defined by their vocation.

Focusing on yourself and your dreams and your own desires I dont think ever satisfied anyone. AS mentioned nobody on their deathbed thinks about their career accomplishments/achievments or how much money they made.

A relationship with the creator and the relationships in our life count for alot when you're much older in life. Just about 98% of people I know over 55 say this in regards to family.

I understand that but it isn't about how much or what you accomplish. Not having a family because you dedicated your life to your work as a mid level manager is the same as not having a family because you became the VP of Bank of America.

Nobody will remember you. Nobody can carry your name. Once you die there is no piece of you left on Earth.

I would much rather work than be at home with some kids and a husband. Ya'll love romanticizing shyt that's not romantic. Most parents look so beat up by life.

Most people's motivation to have a family is pure selfishness and let's be honest...that's usually the highest accomplishment that many people can achieve.

It literally takes no amount of intelligence or discipline or any sort of high level skill to fukk and have a baby. None.

A lot of people only have procreation to contribute to the world so they try to make it grand...the same shyt that even the dumbest animal can do.
I agree with much of what you say but having raw sex and getting preganant =/= having a family. Plenty of folks do that and abandon their seed. I will go a step further with your point and say that most folks are here because of a lack of planning or thought or discipline. But if we talking people choosing family we arent talking about that. We talking people that planned having kids and actually care about them and raise them.

I dont believe that people have to have kids or that people who dont want them should be shamed. However if the majority of kids come from people that arent planning for them and have no other claim to fame then what happens to the overall population? I think our current political climate gives a peek as to what that looks like and it aint good. I get why intelligent, accomplished people would be hesitant or resistant to having kids but if they arent breeding things will only get worse.

I’m in my mid 30s and going out my way to avoid a relationship or kids at the moment (which ain’t easy when you on your shyt lol) and that’s because I am well aware what it takes to have a successful family in this environment. Living in the Deep South you have plenty of folks out here who are stuck and thats because they didn’t play the game right. I’m aware the system is set up this way.

I’m about my money currently and developing a foundation.

I had to work the past 2 Saturdays, just so I wouldn't be forced to work this upcoming Saturday.

Money ain't everything to me. The only way they will get me to work OT is to make it mandatory. I never volunteer for that shít

I'm not a baby machine here to save a racist, sexist plant.

I'm here to fulfill my spiritual journey and move on.

What happens when I leave is not my concern. This planet has existed for millions of years before I got here and will exist for millions of years after I leave.

Hopefully humanity gets it together one day. If not, then hopefully an asteroid will do it's job and make way for a better species. By then I'll be on to my next life.

No its not
The person that became VP really wanted that and when they die they will feel like they accomplished something with their life.

Just because people say things like their kids are their proudest accomplishment it doesn’t mean they aren’t proud of their other achievements.

It doesn’t have to be career or kids and family. You can have both and be proud of both.

Someone said it already when you don’t have nothing else to be proud of you start talking about how family is all that matters. Just to make yourself feel good about your life.

Most of the time the person chasing the work dream came from a big family or has a family member with enough kids for the both of them.

Some people just aren’t parent material
A lot of these psychos out here don’t deserve a relationship either

Reading a book now called Your Money or Your Life.

Just finished a part that talks about how money, as many of us know it, is as much of an actual addiction as drugs, alcohol, food, sex, shopping or other relevant things are. We just have not been conditioned to see it as such.

Additionally, capitalism as our model continues to echo a mantra of "more" as a cure-all or an ambition we ought to have; we are constantly seeking to do more, have more and be more. The issue is, though, if having, being and doing more is always the answer, then there really is never a stopping point.

The deeper question is what is enough and how do you draw that line in the sand when living under the conditions we currently do.

They might work in order to support the family. I had an in-law who literally worked himself to death but sometimes the stress is too much to handle so they want to stay busy and work. It’s not always cut and dry that they don’t like their family but sometimes they don’t

hot take; if they didn't make a wikipedia about you, you don't have a legacy :yeshrug:

Condoleeza Rice has far more of a legacy than someone who went to work some ordinary job for 40 years, and had a couple ordinary kids. there's 8 billion people on this planet, dying every second, being born every second

of course your kids are the most important thing, to you. but in the grand scheme of things, the average person is incredibly unimportant, and changed/influenced nothing. i doubt Condoleeza would change places with the average woman with a couple mediocre kids and an HR job that she doesn't like going to :dead:
