Why Do People Hate Haiti/Haitians ?

This is something I've noticed that is prevalent not just among Americans but amongst other Caribbean people and Europeans

It can't just be about the Revolution because Haitians face discrimination from other majority black /Caribbean nations like Bahamas , DR, Cuba etc.

Is it because of the voodoo stereotype (I know a lot of Jamaicans that dislike Haitians because if this)

I don't know why. My first girl was Haitian/Dominican and her pops (Haitian) was coolest dude. People are a$$holes

It goes back to the Haitian Revolution. There has been a campaign demonizing Haitians ever since they won their independence from the white supremacists. After the revolution, America for example wouldn't even let "white Haitians" into the country for fear that what the Haitians did would spread to the US.

I've always wanted to know this too!

Growing up we really didn't encounter a large group of West Indian/Caribbean folk so naturally we didn't even know the differences between the groups. A few years ago, I had a good Ghanaian friend tell me how much he hated Haitians and that they were considered like "rats" and that they were the most gutter of all black folks.

I was like

Never heard of that before. This was especially surprising since I'm creole on my dad side and some of the stories that were passed down said that our people came to New Orleans from Saint Domingue.

But since then, I've been hearing people refer to Haitians in the same way.

I've also heard South Africans and other groups refer to Nigerians in that way but I'm not sure if the hate is just due to jealousy.

Two of my exes are Haitian so I didn't understand the animus.

If you understand how propaganda work this would easily answer your question. If read on the history of Haiti you would know it great nation filled with strong loving and caring people. But most people don't read most people get their information on what they see on TV or in Hollywood. So Hollywood for the longest have depicted haitian people to be criminals or cannibals that practice voodoo, that eat mud cookies, and that every haitian on the island lives in extreme poverty. But clearly that's not true but that what happens when you let your oppressor tell your story from their point of view.

Besides the news, which Hollywood movies have depicted Haiti or it's people? As it relates to vodoo, New Orleans is referenced more in Hollywood than Haiti.

Low key the biggest c00ns in the diaspora I've found are European blacks regardless of their origins. Permanently assimilate into the culture of the people who fukked your continent up brehs.
