why does Lex hate Superman

Lex was the top man in Metropolis until Superman came in and stole his shine
This plus the fact that he realizes that as much as Superman is powerful and loved cause he is always helping people... if Superman wanted to take over who will stop him? Lex sees Superman as a threat to the world that possibly can't be stop if he chooses to claim Earth as his own.
Well, that, and the fact that Lex believes that Superman will make the human race content on having a savior, instead of pushing their mental abilities to strive to be better.

I prefer the All Star Superman/ Azzarello Luther motivation of him viewing Superman as a reminder of humanity's weakness, and how Superman never earned the position and skills he has. It's much more interesting than the typical greedy CEO

It's a bunch of reasons usually based on the story and writers in new 52 it's the he wants humanity to stand up for themselves and not rely on heroes because they will fail one day ( which actually happened in DC and lex had to save the world becoming a hero and now part of the justice league with captain cold)
Originally, it was just jealousy. After watchmen the writers went
and started doing an angle where superman can be viewed as fascist, alien force. In that imagining of things Lex has pretty justifiable concerns about superman.

but seriously. lex doesnt like the fact that some strange alien dude is running around with all that power and could freak out at any moment and have the entire planet on lockdown if he so well pleases. Lex doesnt like the idea of anyone controlling him or the planet as one person.
Lex thinks that the way the world views Superman is flawed. Lex has had to work his whole life to get to where he is and some alien comes out of no where to get the world's attention when Lex was providing advances in medicine, science, and weaponry for humanity. The fact that they've welcomed some alien and shun him makes him hate Superman. Along with his superiority complex.
And since he's become a JL member he's been trying to convince Batman that they can't trust the League and that as humans they have to watch each others backs.
