Because there exists a double standard when it comes to who creates the quality music. Like I said before, Maxwell was doing the type of music that timberlake is doing, but with more soul in my opinion, but he's hardly mentioned on this site.

Granted, timberlake coming back after 7 years with some catchy beats has garnered him some attention from his fans who want to see him succeed. But he has in no way saved rnb and soul music, nor has he reinvented the concept of soul music. But like I told @VaderMaster, Im a hater when it comes to timberlake's music, so it is what it is. My view will always slant away from giving him full accolades.

To be successful in the music industry is more complicated than you make it seem like. You have to have actual talent (sometimes), work ethic, vision, right label with proper plan and marketing strategy, connection, persona, dedication, attitude and the perfect timing to blow up. Skin tone is very small factor (I hope). Talented and original singers and rappers from all races are struggling to make it. It's talent vs. no-talent battle rather than black vs. white. and thats the bottom line.

For instance, you got this (white) singer who sound like Robin Thicke and Maxwell in a way but never got his big break:




Timerlake is closer to Usher than Maxwell but then again I've never been a fan of Timberlake so I don't know

I fukks with both of their music to a certain extent.

I never considered JT to be R&B or Soul. He is a pop singer, and also caters to a black audience as well as pop fans.

Robin Thicke has always seems more of Soul singer. Doesn't seem to be interested in trying to uber famous or anything.

Both make pretty good music..
