Old school nikkas might have been vulgar too,but they did it with class:martin:....plusbyou can make it sound good when you writing it as poetry....new nikkas bluntly just saying what they gon do do to the p*ssy:pachaha:...the poetry is severly lacking in rnb, song writers dont have a way with words nowadays.

Not necessarily...Ty Dolla is worst then most and even Ive called him out on his overly crude style of writing.....but a majority of newer artist can turn it on and off...they just realize fans like the vulgarity...Chris Browns Private Parts for instance

Also, R&B seems to refuse to evolve. A lot of new R&B songs could have been released in the 90s and 2000s. That's okay if you are catering to a niche market, but if you want mass appeal, you gotta evolve and stay with the times (which is mumble rap, for better or for worse). You need to be out there doing songs with Migos, Uzi, Yachty, 21 Savage, etc. :manny:

NO....... YOU.......DONT

If you're not Beyonce, Rihanna, or have the complexion for protection (:mjpls:), you have to find ways to distinguish yourself. Or else you're just going to be another "underrated" talented R&B singer who never blows up. :yeshrug:

Thats if you plan on being mega star status which many do. But you also talking the pop star rnb diva. All you have to do is listen to your local rnb station...not hiphop and rnb..rnb...there are plenty of other artist in high demad on those stations...yall referring to the pip scene which is still a factor...but real rnb is still around...its just gone underground..but if you a real head then your still up on your game...

Why can't r&b be clean anymore:why:

Song was cool up until Ty Dolla started rapping about "p*ssy" this, "p*ssy" that.

That's one of the bigger problems with R&B today imo. Too much hip-hop influence and vulgarity.

This is the main reason why I've given up on listening to American artists. The lyrics are just to vulgar and I'm tired of being called every negative word for female possible.

I listen to all African artists and all the artists I listen to don't have any vulgarity and if they do, it's automatically edited from the song.

20 something year old females find traditional r&b boring

You can't SERENADE a "SAVAGE" :camby:

RiRi makes the soundtrack to the pathetic lives of these ratchets

Because THOT HOP in the form of CARDI B and all these rappers has caused all these SINGERS to conform

Think about it the only time SEVEN got some serious airplay when she did a collaboration remix with the Fruits piru public spokesperson Chris Breezy :umad:

HArd for me to really call that R&B.
Its what New Jack swing started, merging hip hop beats with singing, but its gotten to the point now the music itself doesn't jive well with singing, its a merger that is a dead end.
The era of singers in hard beats need to die, time to bring singing prowess, melody, and rhythm back.
Also women artist need to stop the race to the bottom. Carry yourself with some god damn class and not a trick on the corner.

Biggest problem is there's nobody young really singing R&B. That lane is completely open. Jacquees tries but he leans too much on the rapper vibe. Yungins are crying out for some clean, classic R&B that they can relate to. Don't believe me? Every teenager knows SWV "Weak," Mary J Blige "I'm Goin Down," etc word for word. It's just nobody giving that classic "boy meets girl and likes her" music that's timeless.

Sevyn Streeter just has no qualities about her that separate her. "Before I Do" is fie but it won't get much attention because Sevyn just isn't interesting so the promotion is gonna be lacking.

Sevyn is one of those artists I have a soft spot for and want to see succeed. Been checking for her since It Wont Stop. I agree with a lot of the comments here, she's got like 0% chance to be a star in this climate in spite of her talent. Chris Breezy been trying to put her own for years too.

Her album just dropped it. It's pretty dope for the most part. But I don't even think I heard her main single on the radio even once, I just happened to be watching BET Soul once when this came on.....

Tell me this lead single aint fire:

@Ol' Otis @stomachlines

She sexy ass fukk too

Unfortunately R&B is more preoccupied with image than even rap and she doesn't jump off the page whatsoever. Melonie Fiona problems

Teedra Moses first album was one of those R&B albums from the 00s that you feel a kinship with anyone else who knew about :russ:. It was great but her image wasn't there. Sevyn is ok looking (crazy jaw) but not drop dead gorgeous. She doesn't fit the earthy trendy vibe that Sza is trying to do either (who felt the need to sexy it up) It's like a basketball team that looks good on paper but year after year never meets expectations. Sevyn makes great music nobody rocks with

R&B just isn't as hot anymore sadly, unless you're Beyonce, Rihanna or white. :francis:
yeah white ice is colder than black......
We gotta be the most copied and imitated group of people, that isn't fully capitalizing off our talents, at least in America, a lot US artists, surprisingly :eat: heavily overseas.
