Breh Shade 45 plays out my day....Sway in the morning....Sear in the afternoon...and Rude Jude in the evening....and they play different shyt ALL the time...I hear more new or unheard artist there then any other platform...

Sway had her on a few weeks ago to promote her album too...shes somewhat a regular...at least 2 interviews a year...for the last couple years at least...although her debut album flopped so it might be a wrap for her..
:heh: reminds me of my bro. He's always listening to shade 45, or sway interviewing someone...

I mean she had no ground game promotion. Most people probably don't even know that who she is let alone that she dropped another album....sad

:dwillhuh: This shyt still come?

:wow: Good times

But breh black women in r&b are in a strange place they're just not being promoted like they used to be
Sevyn,Elle Varner,Keyshia Cole,K.Michelle

The music industry completely turned their backs on black female r&b singers
Yeah I found out about it, because my brother has this new cable company. That channel is piff......A couple weeks back, I just sat for like 4-5 hours watching all this new music I've never seen or heard.......That's how I found about sevyn. I was like damn song in the OP is dope......I was expecting it to blow up but......nothing so far :manny:

Yeah it's like they're stuck ghostwriting if they want to truly blow up.

But I just smh whenever white pop artist can come out with a soulful hit, get praised for it, go quadruple platinum, then go on to sell out tours in stadiums of 70,000. It's ridiculous. I'm not even against the rappers trying sing and vice like ja rule, drake, trey songz. The real death blow was the pay to play. The corporatism that puts image and perception on a pedestal. That pay to play, essentially faking a hit is what soley killed r&b. Instead of hearing talented peeps, garbage artist who cant sing but can stay in the public eye through scandals and what not.....

Yeah I just heard about her a couple months ago. I'm about to go through her discography next.....

All I'm saying if "we" as a community her on the coli listen to these artist, how we ain't making more threads and doing album discussions, exchanging music and what not..... I'm always looking for that next wave soulful shyt too, to play with my girl.....

and yeah i hear you.....Dumb down music to double your dollas.....

I feel you 100%. Great post, bruh. Dap and I tried +rep but I'm passed my limit. :wow:

I agree. I've asked some of these same questions for years, my nikka. :mjcry:

Why can't r&b be clean anymore:why:

Song was cool up until Ty Dolla started rapping about "p*ssy" this, "p*ssy" that.

That's one of the bigger problems with R&B today imo. Too much hip-hop influence and vulgarity.

Like old school nikkas wasnt pushing limits...every generation raised the bar of vulgarity..in todays world there is little room for filter

You cant just slide Trey Songz in there with Ja Rule and Drake,he was cosigned by Aretha:martin:....he just realized this vocalist shyt dont matter no mor eand he apparently aint a natural god given talent vocally,my nikka fell off hard as shyt:mjcry:

Far as Sevyn she just plain boring, everybody knows its all about how women relate to you,and women just for whatever reason dont gravitate towards Sevyn.

there is only 1 spot (maybe 2) in mainstream music for a super successful black female artist
that spot is occupied by beyonce (and maybe rihanna)
try your luck in 5 years time when beyonce is over 40 and rihanna is pregnant out of wedlock!!
:manny:AFRICA-DAMUS IS CORRECT 50% OF THE TIME!!

Old school nikkas might have been vulgar too,but they did it with class:martin:....plusbyou can make it sound good when you writing it as poetry....new nikkas bluntly just saying what they gon do do to the p*ssy:pachaha:...the poetry is severly lacking in rnb, song writers dont have a way with words nowadays.

shyt is too formulaic and basic, like a white paper and a boring standard swag person.

Eh, no? There's been other artists who came and went during their time.
It's cause their shyt isn't John Blaze enough. Rihanna works with the best producers and writers out and Beyonce has gone insane with her two latest albums dropping styles no one has heard before. Plus she's been accumulating people for the past 20 years.

If you wanna exist in that space you need fresh shyt, not just "nice voice, nice ass". I don't listen to commercial music a lot, a few rappers and a few singers. 90% is indie-type and I don't hear any black female singer out here, who has the ambition to be a pop-star, actually drop the music to back it up. Those Fifth Harmony girls are successful, they took that Mustard-esque pop/hiphop sound and dropped club bangers. Let's see if they can do it again, which often is the problem.

Sevyn dropped one banger, she needs a much bigger banger and more of them. Or she needs to connect with the people and drop great and fresh music. Like Kehlani could've been close she just feels too indie. All tatted out, weed everywhere, bars and on. She might be too real for little girls who usually are the ones who make these women blow up, so she'll probably need real hits.

The Godverse
Also, R&B seems to refuse to evolve. A lot of new R&B songs could have been released in the 90s and 2000s. That's okay if you are catering to a niche market, but if you want mass appeal, you gotta evolve and stay with the times (which is mumble rap, for better or for worse). You need to be out there doing songs with Migos, Uzi, Yachty, 21 Savage, etc. :manny:
