It's simple supply and demand.
What do you think makes this world we live in--on a very base and practical level?
Poetry and paintings? Fancy theories with no tangibility? No, those are luxury commodities, which is why those type of jobs are low-wage, low-demand, and high-supply.
Think: this forum wouldn't be possible without STEM majors. Neither would the internet, advancements in music, technology, iphones, etc., etc.
I say all this as a man who has success in both STEM and the arts, so this is my balanced perspective.
