Denzel Washington is the king of "subtle and naunced" performances and ya'll sit up here accusing him of "playing himself" in every movie.. Ya'll are not impressed by "subtle and naunce" unless someone non black is doing it, stop it....

Both can be true. Denzel is subtle and nuanced but that doesn't mean he's hasn't been playing himself for the last 20 years. Some actors are good at playing themselves

I do see something in the bolded tho because Jeffrey Wright may be the best actor on the planet and would probably get his flowers if he were white

She is not worried about the Oscars. In 2019 she was making nearly half a million an episode for that 911 show. 3 damn years ago. She clearly has star power and gets paid for her time put in(something Oscars are usually a cheat code for) so I can't see her giving a damn.

You only giving Jeffrey Wright his props because he's a character actor who only gets to shine in parts, if he was a leading actor you would be saying the same exact thing about him "playing himself". You guys don't like subtle and nuanced... you like Joaquin Phoenix, chewing scenery and throwing a temper tantrum on camera and calling it "acting"... that's what great acting is to most of you.

Denzel Washington in American Gangster was damn near a complete subtle and nuanced performance. He even used a realistic toned down southern accent, instead of doing a stereotypical loud Foghorn Leghorn accent.. and got no recognition or props for it. Ya'll are not impressed by that, ya'll are impressed by Daniel Day Lewis doing an imitation of John Houston in Chinatown.

Pretty much. Comicbook films aren’t taken seriously by the academy. They respect horror and slasher films more. And I don’t blame them. Most comicbook films are…eh. But because adults love them now, they think that the academy should love and respect them too.

Having said that, Angela is way too damn good of an actress to not have at least one!

Youre taking "he plays the same character" as a pejorative when it's not. You know who else plays himself in everything? Tom Cruise, Michael Shannon, you want me to keep naming white people? Jason Bateman is my favorite actor, subtle as it gets, but he's still the same person in everything. Playing yourself is not inherently bad, it's playing yourself and having no refinement in your range that's bad. Then you're just John Leguizamo or someshyt
