Why dont more brothas and sistas become cops?

but to get back to the OP.

I think more POC should become cops. I think it WOULD definitely make a difference. if kids growing up saw cops that "looked like them" then it could try and help build a more trust level with police in those communities.

obviously it ain't gonna make ahuge impact, but it would make some difference. PPL right now already don't trust the police. ppl rarely CALL the cops when something goes down..and why? no faith in system(for good reason). if we can help build it back up so that the common citizen could feel safe going to their cops when needed then maybe we can get more of the scum off the street and keep the actual good and innocent ppl OUT of jail.

Because that force is a tool of white supremacy.. and even those with the best intentions as police officers end up acting out the agenda . Plus police meetings and the media causes police 'threat perception' when dealing w certain groups n communities to be heightened ... so a brother may essentially become a cac for an instance during an incident.

Ntm, we can form our own educational and defense forces for our own community , if you want to solve issues. Video surveillance task forces filming police, militias protecting the streets.

whats wrong with having black folk work in the depts...and eventually work their way up into command level and really go about changing the culture of the police force?

i read something somewhere that ferguson is 70% black....and has 3 black police officers....and 1 black councilman...how can anybody expect blacks to be treated fairly in a situation like that?

sure there are....but why use that as an excuse for fewer blacks to be cops?

No way I could be a cop unless it was a plain clothes detective or a desk job. I'm not wearing a uniform and putting my life on the line every day for little to nothing pay. Not to mention too many crazy people in this country who don't like cops and want to do harm to them. When I was in college the local police force tried to recruit me to be a cop and I told them the negatives outweighed the positives so I passed.

Joining with white people and participating in our own oppression isnt better than black nationalism, imo. Some even say that black nationalism is the cure to feeling the effects of white supremacy as much.
