Cause hes the GOAT...fukk kind of question is this.

lol word not like they're doing an all week thing on some fukkboy like rick fox.

when larry bird had his jersey retired, they didnt do it at halftime of a regular season nba game. they sold tickets and made it a separate event.

the goats get special treatment :yeshrug:

Cause he the GOAT....

Dude is 50 years old and teens and cats in they 20s out here going crazy over the shoes he wore back in the 90's.

Also what else are they supposed to talk about right now? Its a slow sports week and I'm am very tired of hearing about the Lakers and Dwight Howard.

And at the end of the day, Jordan helped ESPN rise to greatness.

His highlights are part of what made Sportcenter so popular in the 90s, why do you think they have a week's worth material on him?

It's only right they pay homage

His greatness coincided with ESPN getting into more homes and the NBA pimping MJ's popularity for everything he was worth since they weren't making money on his jerseys. So while he was one of the greatest athletes ever, timing, a league in flux by free agency and shytty teams, and what I stated earlier has a lot to do with his popularity.

Thank god other sports aren't dikkriding one athlete to the ground like that and got over past greats, focusing on their current ones.

NBA fans are the only fans since post -Jordan who embrace the greatness of players AFTER they've retired, not while they're playing.

It's sort of pathetic.

Heaven on Earth
its an absolute nonsense that they are doing this. They did not do it for Magic, Bird, Russell, Kareem, or even Willie Mays or Ali.Then again, ESPN doesnt have much journalistic integrity.

Its nothing against Michael Jordan, but instead the cult of personality that is around him.

ESPN did something for Ali's 70th birthday similar to what they are doing for Jordan just last summer... (no Mayweather fans made a thread crying about it either)

Their Bill Simmons/Bill Russell special has been all over ABC/ESPN for the past week...

Michael's global impact was just bigger than the rest of those guys.. All super star athletes are not created equal...For their key demo age Mike turning 50 is bigger than Magic or Bird turning 50 because Mike was always a symbol of youth..Even when Bird and Magic were in their late 28's they had that old spirit surrounding them...So we could see them being 50...It's strange and hard to explain but the concept of a 50 year old Michael Jordan is something that was almost impossible to imagine..ESPN does a good job capturing that...

Fistful of jewels
I guess it'll go on as long as someones tops him on and off the court. So don't hold your breath.

Make one for Bill Russell showing what it would look like if they had DPOY and FMVP in his day.

wtf does his 50th birthday gotta do with anything sports related :what:

This nikka been retired for 10 years. His last title was 15 years ago. Why we still hearing about him? I don't care if old ass nikkas think he's the GOAT. New age nikkas don't care. I'mma 80s baby, so I don't care about what he did in the 90s.

I want us to talk about todays players not some old nikka that played 20 years ago.

Hopefully when our generation takes over places like ESPN, we won't waste our time talking about nikkas from 20 years ago.
That's what happens to legends. They get dikkriding props.
It is what it is.

No they don't.

No athlete has singularly defined one sport more than MJ....and it's to a fault.

ESPN and NBA fans don't allow themselves a chance to move on from him.

So you saying they should just forget about him?

I disagree.

I wish I could see film and highlights of Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and all the great players of the past we never got a chance to see. I can see their stats but I would love to get the chance to see how Oscar Robertson was averaging a triple double each game.

Its kids out here speing $200 on the shoes and don't even know what the man did to get to the point that his shoe is the most popular tennis shoe of all time.

The only thing I don't like about the coverage that Jordan gets is how they forget about the other great players from his era. Barkley, Malone, Drexler, Payton, Ewing, Hakeem, Isaiah, David Robinson. Of course its because Jordan beat alot of them out for rings, but still great players

.

I don't know. Wayne Gretzky, Babe Ruth, Jack Nicklaus and Pele, they are far from playing the game but still get props.

How can you move on when no one else is even near pushing him off greatness? Kobe Bryant? Not even close. LeBron, maybe, he's got time. It's a joke if you think anyone has neared MJ's career. It's kind of epic.

Babe Ruth is not THE pre-eminent star in baseball.

You got people who revere Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle just as much.

Jack Nickalus.....aren't you proving my point bringing up a guy not playing a team sport?

Pele? :childplease: Soccer isn't big enough here for me to say what he means to the sport.

MJ is the ONLY athlete that singularly defines a team sport out of all of the major three sports. Other sports have room for others. It's really annoying....and it isn't MJ fault.

No other sport saw an exodus of fans leave based on one player. None.
