I wouldn't even have a problem with it if they didn't always do it as a way of tearing down the younger guys.

And the nostalgia goggles people wear is so fukking transparent. Can you imagine if a player today dropped 63 in a playoff game and LOST? they'd be crucified as being a selfish player who can't will his team to a win.

Did that not happen to Jordan? He was considered a selfish gunner and compared to unselfish winners like Magic and Bird who "made their teammates better". What's funny is that now the shyt has completely flipped on the strength of the Jordan worship. So now it's all about scoring and taking the last shot. :skip: Can you imagine Magic getting shyt on for passing to an open teammate at the end of a game?

I'm sorry, but the volume on that was extremely low compared to how players hear that today.

There wasn't 24 hour coverage and the internet back then so of course it was to a lesser degree. I would never deny that. The concept was still the same though.

I'm sorry...but it wasn't a talking point that resonated very much. I was so thirsty for MJ hate I checked out the Jordan Rules book from the Grand Army Plaza library and never returned it. LOL

:heh: It was a different time. Today all you gotta do is type in "fukk Lebron" and do a search and you have all you want. All you gotta do is turn on ESPN2 and you can hear :skip: bytch about Bron for 4 hours a day.

They don't hear you tho.

Jordan was getting shytted on prior to winning a title. It was conventional wisdom that a scoring two guard would never lead his team to a title, since it had never been done before.

So you're the one? I was so distraught the book wasn't there that I walked all the way to Nostrand Ave.

Man please. It was barely talked about when Ahmad was dikkriding him every weekend prior to him even hoisting a trophy.

Yep..

My pops and all them dudes from his era had very little respect for Jordan before '91.. They constant narrative was that he could never win the big one and be in the same class as Larry, Magic and Isaiah..

People felt he was crowned too early and you would hear a lot of shade about "How can he have 100 dollar sneakers with no rings?"

The reason he ran into the locker room crying and hugging the trophy was because up into that point he had started to get stressed from all the hate and doubters..

Dude was seriously under pressure.. I remember someone upped the first message boards from the 80's and all it was were posts of Lakers and Celtics fans calling him overrated and a choker..

That's bs.

There was a clear "Hope he gets it" tenor tied to MJ's reach for the ship.

He was NO WHERE hated by the media. That's a complete myth to say that the climate around MJ was that he was all of those things.

You're allowing your hate to rewrite history...

It was a generational thing....

Dude did the dunk contest with two gold ropes and ushered in baggy shorts..50 year old sports writers in the 80's didn't have a love affair with Jordan..

Magic, Bird and Dr. J were their guys...Not the young n1gga doing commericials with Mars Blackmon..

Bringing up Ahmad Rashad is ironic because his dikkriding was so noticeable it started to become an open joke...Mike didn't become a media darling until after the '91 season....

I'm not re-writing anything.

The culture in sports

This was 1989....he was already a media darling.
