Baseball could be headed towards something like that right now though. There is pretty much no debate Mike Trout is the best in the game, and he's on pace for the best WAR in history this season. If he keeps this up for like 10-12 more years, and gets some rings and never tests positive for PEDs he might become baseballs undisputed GOAT

I have a question about this for baseball heads. I just saw Trout is batting .290. Not bad average by any stretch of the imagination but back when I was really into baseball the best players were batting, .309, .320, etc.

Is the standard lower now cuz PEDs are out the game?

A large part of that is the media, but Gretzky is just so much better even as some who doesn’t watch hockey what he did seems like the equivalent of a player with the impact of Kareem and magic together damn near the goat twice over.
