The Forest Where Hope Died

Musa made his pilgrimage in 1324, his procession reported to include 60,000 men, 12,000 slaves who each carried four-pound gold bars, heralds dressed in silks who bore gold staffs, organized horses and handled bags. Musa provided all necessities for the procession, feeding the entire company of men and animals.[8] Also in the train were 80 camels, which varying reports claim carried between 50 and 300 pounds of gold dust each. He gave away the gold to the poor he met along his route. Musa not only gave to the cities he passed on the way to Mecca, including Cairo and Medina, but also traded gold for souvenirs. Furthermore, it has been recorded that he built a mosque each and every Friday.

Mansa Musa was a black king of Mali, during the early days of the Songhai empire. Many African cultures had slaves during this time as well, but the slavery practiced amongst Africans was far different than the slavery practiced in the Americas. Nearly all African kings had slaves of some sort. The difference is that slaves were still considered part of society, could marry, and were respected as human beings.

If you want to learn about Mansa Musa and why I feel he is an important historical figure, perhaps you should actually READ A fukkING BOOK instead of Google searching, so you dumbass could learn a thing or ten.

But I'm sure you'll just go back to c00ning on the coli or making shytty rap songs in your off time, since that makes you feel better.

So you're ok with supporting slavery,,what's the difference ..he kidnapped a bunch of Africans and forced them to work against their will.:why:.I'm sure the slaves weren't happy being slaves,,they would rather be free....I don't give a shyt if he was the King of Mali..he still enslaved Africans ..12,000 Africans ..prob more..that's what evil people do...but you're ok with this,,,,cuz he was rich, black, and famous..

And no..it's not an african tradition to have slaves..I don't remember reading about Shaka Zulu having slaves..to say it's an african tradition is a misinterpretation to corrupt people in power..since when is it morally right to take someone against their will..I don't respect that..just kill em..I have more respect for the murderer than the guy that has a kidnap victim trapped in house for years.

No since Mansa Musa was such a great man and he was the richest man that ever lived, I'm sure he could of afforded to pay his employees..:yeshrug:

And the truth is that I don't really care..he's a prominent figure in history..but if you're gonna call me a c00n with that Avi then I'm a go at ya neck..

I don't think anyone is "happy" but what's happening is vindicating what a lot of us have been saying for months. The Lupita fad isn't genuine, it's Hollywood's attempt to patronize the black audience. I've been saying the same shyt for MONTHS, but @Box Cutta and @Jazzy B. said it better than I ever could :yeshrug:

:sas1: Me and @Box Cutta called this months ago

:sas2:

She's an attractive woman but I wouldn't call her a stunner.

The backlash (If you can even call it as such) is the result of Cac/Kike Hollywood condescendingly shoving her down our throats. It seems forced. It's not earnest. Something is off-putting.

Black folks, and I'd guess that Coli members in particular, are very sensitive to how we are portrayed in the media. We've seen it ALL and are very acclimated to the ebbs and flows of our representation.

Lupita comes out of nowhere playing an abused slave, is dark skinned with a shaved head....she looks like the exact opposite of the kind of woman that Hollywood/the Media tends to market in the media. Is it because whites have finally had a change of heart? Is it because she played a slave and white liberals wanna feel "good" about themselves?

I don't see whites outsides of the media sweating her like that....go to white forums, go to twitter or tumblr...it's blacks, and the liberal media, hyping her. Why is there a dissonance between regular whites and fukking people writing in magazines?

It's condescending....I feel like these people are treating her like a pet.

I want Lupita to win. I hope she is a down sister and not a bedwench as the rumors have stated, but there is a coyness surrounding her right now that rubs me the wrong way.

I feel like.....the people propping up Lupita are the same ones that have propped up Rupaul all these years. White Gay Men that see her as some sort of "canvas" or "novelty".

And as I've pointed out before...none of this hype appears to have resulted in any actual roles yet. It's just a bunch of hot air. You'll never hear her name being thrown out there to play a superhero. You'll never hear her name being put out there to play the sexy love interest. So what's the fukking deal?

All I know is that after all of this, they better give her that fukking Oscar.

i don't find Lupita that attractive but she's not ugly. in some pics there is definitely something about her that's sexy. i think she's cute.

my beef is not with her but her fans are annoying as fukk trying to shove her down our throats. it's like they're trying to shame us into thinking she's the sexiest most beautiful most super awesome super super pretty gorgeous cool woman ever.

the media is borderline :troll:us. it's almost like the "he's so well spoken vibe" the media gave about obama when he was coming up.

Hollywood composed of majority Whites caters to White directors, actors and producers in a majority White country, shocking and surprising :ohhh:

Maybe Lupita needs to act in Nollywood films or help cultivate the Black film industry :ohhh:

black gotta find a funnel, to make sure movies and gain traction...

she is a treffic actress and i do hope she finds success in the "mainstream"

and if she doesnt, there needs to be a vehicle for her to showcase her talent and movies...

steve mcqueen might need to connect with oprah, tyler perry, etc...or yall crowdfund her next movie.
