Adding on to similar topics on the front page...

Why is it that the quality of Music, and Entertainment in general has gone down?

Music - Not just rap, but music in general is not as good as it used to be. Compare music from the 80's and 90's to now.

Movies - Also not as good as it used to be. Compare movies from the 80's and 90's to now.

N.B.A and the NFL - I dont watch sports too much but I have a feeling that sports fans would agree

that sports in the 80's and 90's were at a higher quality then it is now.

T.V Shows - Also not as good as it used to be. Where is the next Martin? Where is the next Seinfeld? etc

(Edit : to be fair...I'm not too familiar with T.V shows now a days, so this statement might be wrong)

Is there a common reason to all of this? Or are there individual reasons for each of these entities?

TV is where you're wrong. it's never been better..there havent ever been this many GOOD shows on at once

there may have been a higher high of GREAT shows in the 90s but the overall breadth of good shows is unprecedented right now.. a lot of them just ended or are ending though so we may hit a drought

and NBA wise the game itself is a more entertaining product than the 90s nostalgia aside.

what were missing that the 90s had are real rivalries

It sucks because you're too old to be impressed by any of this stuff because none of it's new and it's all distractions anyway

Rap was still evolving in the 90's, you have multiple types of rap, now it's just all in one generic pile

TV sucks because nobody watches TV anymore, reality shows catered to brain dead people it was always called the IDIOTIC BOX for a reason

movies are just remakes of old shyt, they was remake of old shyt, film techniques have been in the same for the past decade, when in the 80's and 90's new shyt was developing and pushing the envelope

Problem is that in schools today, they cut back on art and music and make more brain-dead "educated" kids and no form of creativity is being used like that anymore. Its reflects on what society does these days.

Yeah
Fast food breh.

the information is coming too fast people don't appreciation patience timing etc

everything is devoured and absorbed quickly without proper analysis or thought.

remember having to wait for a movie to come out on vhs?

remember for having to wait for a music video to come on?

remember having to use a physical encyclopedia?

Thats why i support artist who have a personal relationship with their work and take their time.

Nobody loves old shyt more than me, and even I go :snoop: when I see threads like this.

And it's even more funny when you see some of the shyt nikkas will romanticize from the past, and yet have these mega-high standards for anything new. So "Whoomp There It Is" and "Tootsie Roll" and shyt like that can get a pass, but DJ Mustard is the wackest thing to ever happen to music... just an example I'm using but you know. Truth is, no matter how great the good ol' days were, NOTHING is ever as great as we think it was. It's just the memories we have from when we were younger, and because we loved all that shyt then, we think nothing will ever be better than it now. All these "how come we don't get great shows like The Parent Hood", "Big Willie Style >>>> any album released this year", etc. type posts are just the effect of nostalgia completely makin' nikkas lose their minds.

dog of course wack music was being made back in the days lol but we are talking about the overall state of the music back in the days

I get the nostalgic shyt that people have been mentioning in this thread but that shyt dont really apply to me because I wasn't even listening to rap music in the 90's...

I was a little kid back then...

here's another example........why hasn't the 2000's produced any classic hit singles like the ones from the 90's?

Are there any hit records that came out in the 2000's that can top the following hit records from the 90's :

- nothing but a g thang

- gin&juice

- california love

- C.R.E.A.M

- Juicy

- CrossRoads

- Rosa Parks

- Shook Ones

- Quiet Storm

Of course I can go on and on....at the end of the day, we can speculate about reasons why people prefer the 90's over the current scene

but when you look at things in a tangible manner and you juxtapose hit records from the 90's versus the hit records from the 2000's

you can clearly see the decline in the quality

unless somebody is going to come in here and seriously name hit songs from the 2000's that are better then the list I put up.

how does somebody "sound" like that?

but not at all...I like the music of now a days...I just think it could be better

Well this year - Freddie Gibbs dropped a potential classic. Blu dropped a potential. Shabazz Palaces doing amazing things in the studio. the whole dirty science crew is a problem. Quelle Chris keeps dropping good music - even his brother dropped a nice tape. Evidence and alchemist both been dropping potentials this year and the past few years. its just so much good music these days im all like :mindblown: at anyone tryna shyt on it.[/QUOTE]

that Freddie Gibbs joint was the shyt...hell Freddie Gibbs is one of my favorite rappers

and I'm not too familiar with the other artists you mentioned besides alchemist...

but are you saying those artists have made better albums then the list I gave you earlier on?

I asked you to name me some albums that are just as good as the list from the 90's I gave you earlier on (The Chronic, IllMatic, OB4CL, The Diary etc)

of course good music is still being made now a days...I love today's rap music....I just dont think its as good as the music from the 90's...

the quality hasnt gone down, breh

we're overstimulated with the internet. in the 90s everything that came out got you hype because you werent flooded with material and didnt have unlimited options of music to listen to. the level of anticipation and buildup is gone, because theres something new out every day

those are just myths that are repeated by people who didnt live thru the '90s, or at best - werent off the porch yet.

there was way more music of relevance droppin left & right in the '90s. and i mean really dropping & making a mark. not just links to random tracks that nobody cares about being tossed around on forums.

and there was WAY WAY WAY more going on back in the day. it was nearly impossible to truly keep up with everything. whether you purchased the music, bootlegged it, or dubbed it up for free. AND WE HAD THE INTERNET TOO. the internet is really a '90s phenomenon.

the anticipation & build-up is gone because theres been nothing but the same 10 rappers droppin albums & collaborating with each other over & over for nearly a decade now. and half of them are rappers who fell off YEARS AGO. oh and when a new rapper "breaks through" nowadays, its usually some garbage man or an industry plant. back in the '80s - early 2000s, there were new breakthrough acts droppin on a regular basis. i can prolly name more breakthrough acts from one summer back in the day than i can name in the past 5 years.

instead of playing make-believe and pretending that the quality isnt down, why dont you acknowledge it and address the reasons why its down?

TV got better, there are shows today that are just as good as movies, if not better.

Music...ok I'll give you that but there's good stuff out there if you look for it. Stay away from radio and avoid all music related award shows.

Only thing that has gotten objectively better over the years is porn and it's availability.

ive never seen anybody say any of this chit ever, aside from the "parent hood" part.

and the difference between the tootsie roll and ***insert current song by non-rappin ass rappers*** is that songs like the tootsie roll were held in their proper perspective. as opposed to today, where the 69 boyz would be viewed as serious contenders, and nominees on mtv's hottest mcs list.

i like a few chief keef & waka waka songs, but its kinda hard to enjoy em when they try to put them at the forefront of the rap game. and you go on these forums and you see a bunch of lil twerps making threads calling their albums classic.

but why am i wasting my time? you already know better. youre just trying to play devil's advocate. and probably fishing for daps. thats corny.
