WHY is it that the western conference has been better for so long?

I mean, its going on 15 years now that the western conference has had consistently better teams. Obviously its not as bad as in the early 2000s when the east was a wasteland, and the east has had great teams in this stretch, but why is it that from 1-8 the western teams have had better records for so long?

Because the West Coast teams (with the exception of LA) are allowed to build their teams without the win now mentality and pressure many East Coast teams have to deal with. Plus outside of Miami and NYC the West has more desirable destinations with better weather.

Could be $$$ in the franchises and more "big market" teams that the NBA wants to see succeed in the west I really think its as simple as something like that. I know what youre saying though. But I also feel people perpetuate the myth and make it even bigger than it is. The west is deeper but the top teams arent all THAT much better than the Easts top tier
