But yeah, kinda like the rock star clothing that got popular in the hood post 2005. Problem is that "black" music stagnated and never evolved post 2003. Either get Euro-influenced, or just die off. Kind of like when Timbo and Justin changed R & B into a techno genre, Kanye wanted to push himself cause he didn't want to limit himself in one formula.

Totally agree. I would say for as long as there has been pop music, black people have made/invented the coolest types of music.

Black people set the pace. Rock, jazz, blues, hip-hop we kept coming up with tht new fly shyt and it worked on a mainstream level a lot of the time.

Now Europeans are setting the pace. Imo black people need to get back in touch with our soul. Great singers, great dancers & our ill feel for beats. It all started with Diana Ross....

We used to be the trendsetters that innovated without a second thought. It seemed like once nikkas got comfortable in the "old" ways of Hip Hop (early 00s trends) we stopped thinking about the art and conformed to the dollar. Back before Ye, everyone had to have a backstory of being some super goon on the block.:beli:

What was also interesting is at the same time Kanye dropped "Stronger," the likes of Dipset and G-Unit, NY's last 2 groups, their influence started to fade out of children. Basically, the perfect storm for Hip Hop to be Euro-izied.

Hip Hop fashion being played out + Kanye's crazy impact + lowered crime rates + older gangsta rappers + lack of integrity in making music = the situation we in today.

Gay sh1t is more acceptable now than it was in 1997

that;s why Kanye is hot now and Frank Ocean hasn't been banished from the game

that as well. When Nas was in his mafioso prime, you couldn't be a happy black man and still had credibility in the mainstream. You couldn't even smile much back then cause cats though that you were "Soft" if you did. Ye came in the game with Rocafella and Dame backing him up, so he had more of a chance to be himself instead of the prototypical gangsta rapper.

Fuk what n1ggas say

The Mafiaso era in hiphop >>>>>

The Firm, The Commission, CNN, Terror Squad, Kool G Rap, Pac's Outlaws, Wu Tang (The later weren't 100% on the mafia theme but were infuenced by it in structure and lyrics) Sh1t even Puff's "No Way Out" had a mafioso theme when u think about it.....(the album cover and the whole "family" thing)

Rick Ross may be a complete fraud but I appreciate him attempting to single highhandedly bring that era in rap back

:whew:

i prefer entertainment rap over fakkitry bro

If I want reality I'll watch a documentary
:stopitslime:

guess my dad was right. Gangsta rap is like a cigarette addiction: nearly impossible to stop completely. Cats are addicted to gangsta rap like crack addicts. :scusthov:

Everyday man theme >> super thug theme that is pure comedy.

I'd take 2pac rapping bout blasting thru 100 n1ggas dolo any day of the week over some emo fakkit rapper complaining about his inability to pay his bills or problems with his girl

I remember not right away, but eventually I had him sign my Blueprint CD, and he opened the booklet and circled the songs he produced and put his initials besides all four tracks (Takeover KW, Izzo KW, Heart of The City KW, Never Change KW) and THEN he actually took the blank space of the booklet and WROTE IN "Girls Girls Girls Remix...I did this beat too! KW"

Couldn't believe it.

:dead: thats awesome!

:deadmanny: at White Mikes Kanye posts in this thread.

Scott Verner posted this yesterday.

brokemogul | Kanye hasn
Kanye hasn’t changed. He just has more people listening to him.

In Jan ‘04 Dame Dash invited me 2 Sundance Film Festival for the premiere of The Woodsman. After the movie, he had a party with bunch of hollywood “peeps.” DJ AM was spinning, the place was having a great time. Dame had AM cut his set in middle so Kanye could perform. But no one knew who Kanye was then. His 1st album wasn’t coming out until Feb. In fact, I think John Legend was playing keyboard in Ye’s stage band. Thru the wire may have been out. Can’t remember. But no one in hollywood was that hip to know it. Ye got up on stage in a room that had two floors. Balcony overlooking stage. Not the best environment for music performance. He started to perform. People weren’t paying attention. He could feel it. They were talking. He was frustrated. About 3/4 of the way into the song. He stopped. “Everyone that is not listening is gonna be mad u had the opportunity to see me perform for the first time.”

But it still didn’t silence the crowd. Chatter continued. He jumped off stage. Ran to the top of balcony and screamed at the top of his lungs. Demanded to be heard. To be honest he COMMANDED to be heard. Similar to his recent rants. I couldn’t believe this kid had the balls. The conviction in himself to turn these people and HE DID. People started to watch and they got into it. I knew at that moment. He was a real artist. That he cares about one thing. At all costs. HIS MUSIC.

If there is a point to this story, I guess its appreciate what artists want you to hear and don’t let expectations ruin the experience.
