He never sold out.

I hung out with the guy in early 2003 before anyone knew he rapped except only the most hardcore heads. People knew he did beats, that was about it. He genuinely believed he was the biggest superstar on earth. he would play songs from the early version of College Dropout and then say, "That was one of the best songs in music history, we need to hear that again" and hit the repeat button and play it over.

When he was recording I See Now with Little Brother he kept having to stop at this one part where he ran out of breathe. Eventually Phonte or someone jokingly called him on it and he said, "My music is timeless it's supposed to take my breathe away!"

He always thought he was a star man. When Talib brought him on tour (Kanye's first time being an opener for a big act) Kanye did wild shyt like rolling out in a wheelchair then jumping out when the Takeover beat came on rapping crazy. On the College Dropout tour he would play the first 10 seconds of Lucifer 2 or 3 times in a row just to let the crowd hear Jay-Z say "Kanye you did it again you a genius!".

The guy has always been crazy as fukk.

Kanye still makes good joints but his music isn't as soulful as it once was. The current Kanye has predictable content and more cheesy punchlines imo.

Interesting.. So the seed was always there for him to loose his soul. The nikka that earned his rep sampling soul beats striving to become a dope MC has literally lost his soul and tumbled off the deep end lyrically

I can't get with the new shyt. I listen to a joint like Grammy family and get chills. I listen to Two words and get chills

There isn't anyone holding him accountable either. Where is Q-Tip or Yung Guru to check this nikka.

There was a point somewhere between Late Registration and Graduation that Kanye was producing :wow: :ahh:. If he's evolved his sound, that's cool but his production and lyrics are no where near as good as his old stuff. It's almost like he's a different person with the same name if you know what I'm saying?

The guy just doesn't seem anywhere near as humble in his interviews as he used to be and I don't like his arrogance or his pretentiousness any more. I thought it was a phase but it looks like it's here to stay and it's just annoying and makes him look like an a$$hole 90% of the time IMO.

What happened?

A;ways loved that interview but couldn't find it. Thank you!

At some point man people can get too powerful for anyone to really check them like that anymore. Real talk Kanye really doesn't have to listen to Jay anymore. I get chills from Grammy Family and Two Words too. I have to admit I did like Kanye's verse from that New God Flow song. I thought he rapped really well on Gorgeous.

The thing is, these days I wonder how much Kanye really writes. For a fact I know he wrote the majority of his first 3 albums in his head, with the exception of a few lines here and there. I just miss his production. After Graduation, he started either differing entirely to other producers or as seen on Watch the Throne, he only did 1 beat on there. I definitely miss his beats.

But yes he always thought he was going to be a mega star, although there was a seed of insecurity in how he behaved as well.

I remember not right away, but eventually I had him sign my Blueprint CD, and he opened the booklet and circled the songs he produced and put his initials besides all four tracks (Takeover KW, Izzo KW, Heart of The City KW, Never Change KW) and THEN he actually took the blank space of the booklet and WROTE IN "Girls Girls Girls Remix...I did this beat too! KW"

Couldn't believe it.

The 1 beat he did was dope. Your dead on with your analysis but something will have to give. Maybe Common can send a Takover-esq anthem his way. He needs a wakeup call. He's acting like a zombie right now.

No offense to Ye but he sound like he's trying to be Ross or 2chainz. Mercy? Theraflu? nikka thats not you

Downtown Durham NC Marriot hotel. May 2003 I think? Kanye was there, along with Foxy Brown's brother, and some other dude from Def Jam to judge an emcee battle.

Afterwards Kanye went to record a song with Little Brother, which can be heard on Chitlin Circuit 1. That was the only day I ever saw or hung out with him, but Little Brother did a small House of Blues tour with him I believe that year or the following year. Don't remember. They all have some more funny Kanye stories.

People expect to hear Nas rap over a certain type of sound. People don't have any set criteria for Kanye because he actually produces the music and it's always interesting to see what direction he's taking it. I doubt most people check Kanye primarily for his lyrical content. I would not be a fan of dude if I were only checking him from a lyrical standpoint. I will always check for Nas in that regard, even if I'm not feeling the musical direction (which I usually am anyway).

I was a huge Kanye fan before CD came out I was hyping it, but I'll agree he's completely changed up. I agree that all his albums sound different musically but that's not my beef. My problem is his lyrics are all floss now compared to his earlier stuff, there was a nice mixture of different content. Musically MBDTF was great but dude wasn't really saying nothing. Now after that he isn't say nothing and the flow is :sadcam: status..that song with Khaled/Ross and H*A*M are the perfect examples of how he switched. He hasn't progressed if anything he has regressed. He went from making music that made him standout compared to his peers..to doing Future type hooks and verses you would get from Rozay or Wayne.

i agree kanye has changed to a point, but he's always been this way somewhat, he even says it on his first album, he's always wanted to stunt, even still he does his deep joints like blame game, gorgeous, lost in the world type tracks on his albums tho, maybe it just me tho, cuz i never get too upset with artists changing over time, as long as they still make something i can rock with, he can't be the dropout forever
