I specifically countered your assertion that "Fruits and veggies be like 1$ a pound" by stating that while some of them are, many of them are not, especially the higher quality ones. I did that by giving you personal examples of my experiences as a health conscious black man. I'm in the produce section 3-4 times a fukking week. As well, I stated that I wish my people would eat healthier and admitted that we do make a lot of excuses. But to sit here and act like eating healthy is cheap or some shyt is outrageous. You need to get a grip.
Some unhealthy foods are expensive too.

If $1/pound fruits & veggies is what one can do, do that. But let's not act like a burger & fries is ever the better option.

There's cheap & expensive stuff in every aisle.

Breh, you need to get out of here with that holier than thou attitude. Your'e not the only one that grew up poor and knows how to budget your money. And what the fukk are you talking about saying don't don't be disingenuous :what:

Horse shyt excuses. I've been poor and ate unhealthy and I know why it happens and I'm making a conscious effort to not just change my eating habits but get in ground floor and make it a viable option for all of us. I know that our poverty is because of white folks. But I also know our liberation will be because of black folks. Now as healthy conscious black men.. It would be our duty to change the habits of other black people so that we can all eat right. I have projects I'm working on to help the situation while making it profitable. I also see the excuse about healthy budgeting. How about we combat those things. How about we build with each other. Writing a budget for healthy food for someone who is in the produce section that offen should be light work for you. I've worked grocery at an expensive store. I know what is affordable. We could build a menu between us right now for those who wanna eat healthy on a budget If that's a reason for the bad eating habits wouldn't you say? I'm not trying to come off holier than thou. I thought prefacing being poor in that situation would make it make more sense coming from me since I lived it and escaped it.

First off, I salute you for your efforts of bringing change to the community :salute:

Secondly, I don't get why you keep on bringing up excuses, when I've stated twice now that we as a people make too many excuses. I'm just stating FACTS in regards to produce pricing.

I think you are underestimating how much of the problem is cultural and I think you are being too hard on our people. You seem like the "I made it out the projects, why can't everyone else" type. I from the fukking south side of Chicago, so I know about being poor and living in the struggle, just because I ended up being health conscious doesn't mean that everyone else will. We barely even have any healthy stores in the hood, shyt is mostly fast food. The same thing with gyms. Not saying shyt can't or doesn't need to change, but it's not as easy as you're making it out to be.

No one said burgers and fries were the better option. What I am saying is, eating healthy isn't as cheap as some in this thread are making it out to be.

There's no excuse for the vast majority of peoples health issues. Its called a budget. I budget my money and maximize my potential. We need to stop pretending that we not spending all kinds of money on shyt we don't need when we have health issues. Its horse shyt. Don't be disingenuous. We need to be educating. Make a damn budget with a list of foods and make a price range for different levels of incomes. Matter fact I'll take that initiative. I'll work on that today. I'll put the work in the research that shyt. Too many talkers not enough doer's.

I only used burgers & fries as an example of an unhealthy meal.

What unhealthy meal is cheaper than say, rice, beans & colards, for example? I just grabbed this article for reference.
An adult on a 2,000-calorie diet could satisfy USDA recommendations for vegetable & fruit consumption for around $2 to $2.50 per day. This accounts for both amount and eating a variety of fruits and vegetables.

That's bullshyt for one.......And having 2 heavy starches like that at the same time aint necessarily healthy if you're not active.....

At 2:50 a day, that's instant rice, frozen collards, and canned beans......Does that sound healthy to you....?

What's sad is you had to go online to get an example....

If every cat in here is eating so damn healthy, it should be nothing to post how much you spend on food and how long it lasts.....:sas1:

Out here in my damn drawls
Unfortunately theres such a high percentage of us living paycheck to paycheck. When that happens you tend to eat what you can afford. Healthy food cost more money. Every time I go into A Whole Foods I hardly see any black people there except the employees. I make decent money and I can barely afford Whole Foods so I kno the average black family cant.

Whole Foods ain't shyt. My town has the farmers market way out of the way so I have to bite the bullet and go there more than I would like to

Went in there a few weeks ago and dropped $65 on an amount of shyt I could've carried by hand without a hand-basket :beli:

At the end, the article states:
Canned or frozen fruits and vegetables were not consistently more or less expensive than fresh produce. For example, canned carrots (34 cents per edible cup equivalent) were more expensive than whole fresh carrots eaten raw (25 cents per edible cup equivalent), but for peaches the opposite was true.
I grabbed an article because I currently buy all organic. I don't know what conventional food cost currently. Nor do I know what fast food or unhealthy food cost currently. But I do know that when I started eatin' healthy years ago, my bill didn't go up. It didn't go up until I started buyin' all organic.

That's why I asked. Maybe you can provide an example of the cost of the average unhealthy meal instead fo tryin' to clown.

Also, bein' active is part of bein' healthy.

True. I'm not trying to come off holier than thou. I'm just passionate and don't wanna sugar coat anything. Or else I would say fukk the community. I didn't make it on my own merits. So I don't expect that. What I do expect is to sharpen swords with other brehs like you. We can build with each other if we have the same goal. Educate me, breh. Put me on some game.
I also noticed that the healthy stores are strategically placed far away from the hoods.
I want to bring that right to them. I want farmers markets right in the hood. Not only will that increase the access to healthier options but it becomes a lucrative avenue for brehs. We usually live in urban, dense settings so urban farming could be big for us. We just gotta get it kicked off. That also keeps cacs always from handling our foods. All organic. These are steps that aren't too expensive and are nothing but positive.

That's deep. Great example. Now I see exactly how unhealthy food is cheaper.

Enjoy

But you don't even know what the average nikka is eating...You had one poster in here talking about McDs and KFC every day....

Those were just raw numbers for sugar and high blood pressure. I didn't read anything about age brackets, income levels, occupation, etc....

Cause truth be told, stress can give you high blood pressure......

Everybody just wanna go off on a tangent what nikkas aint doing right, and probably don't even live around black people...
