Basketball is the only one I see a debate for in terms of age limit. I could see a MLB type rule, as in you either go pro after HS or you're required to stay 2 years in college.

As for the NFL, we don't need 18 years having they're lives ruined with nothing to fall back in. Plus, it'll take a once in a generation type talent to even get a look from the NFL out of high school

If that's the case, the NFL needs a farm system where potential pro players get paid... I can easily see a 20 year old RB or WR making major contributions in the league....

The current setup is basically exploiting free labor...

there's a salary cap in hockey and you can't play in the NHL/ until your 18, in basketball you're not forced to go to college, you can sit out a year play overseas if your a top prospect

The 3 years out of high school age requirement is because the NFLPA is weak.

Would be nice, but I can't see the NFL investing much money in 18-19 year old kids. Elite kids probably see more from boosters and shyt. So unless they wanna live like Minor Leaguers making 30-50k or someshyt, I don't see it

This would actually be fair

Yeah I'm sure some would take that, only problem is the health concerns with football. Like if a kid blows his knee that 1st year, and gets cut. What happens? That moneys gone and he may be done.

It's a tough situation. Their best bet is trying to get payed by the NCAA. Although that's likely to never happen

I always thought Adrien Peterson could have played in the nfl when he was a freshman at OU. He almost won the heisman and was just as beastly that year then he was any other year at OU if not more so.

Don't PLAYER unions have to sign off on age limits in the CBAs? Correct me if I'm wrong.
And does anybody truthfully think the NFL would draft a 18 year old kid outta HS? They wouldn't waste a 7th rounder on them, they'd have to wait 2 and a half 3 years just for that player to get big enough:dead:

As opposed to dropping an 18 year old in the middle of a firefight in Fallujah... :sas1:

This is about money/greed..... for the NFL(cause they don't need to invest in a farm\marketing system for potential players) and the NCAA(who essentially making billions off free labor)
:what:

Tennis, golf and NASCAR are individual sports where the winner beat the field for the his salary.

MLB you either come out of high school or do 3 years.

Tennis and golf have nowhere near the physical demand of football and basketball also because of the individual aspect they don't need a college program to prepare them for pro-level schemes.

That being said NBA and NFL shouldn't have salary caps. And I used to say high schoolers should be allowed back in the NBA but these days it would be taken advantage of you'd have a whole bunch dudes who don't belong. One and done is fine.

If you're honestly wondering why they don't allow kids to go to the NFL fresh out of high school, there's no way you've ever strapped on a helmet before :yeshrug:
