Why isn't Wale bigger/more popular than he is?

Honestly, his bars are dope and he's talented but if you aren't that attractive and make songs for the ladies, you can't expect to get too big. If he had the music he makes and looks like Drake, he would be the biggest artist in the game.

Regardless if he "ugly" or not the radio hits that are catered to the females are only catchy because of the hook and/or featured artist. His verses are generally lackluster and forgettable:yeshrug:

That Way- Jeremih ft Wale
Loutus Flower Bomb- Miguel ft Wale
Bad- Tiara Thomas/Rihanna ft Wale
Matrimony- Usher ft Wale
The Body- Jeremih ft Wale

All of those songs could easily be hits without him unfortunately:manny: and the female demographic that it's directed to are black females like op stated. The white demographic of females don't accept because he's too "rough", "emotional" , and probably just not handsome enough sadly. It don't matter how much he loves Seinfeld and yoga, if white america don't love you then you can't truly become that superstar he's aspiring to be:ufdup:. Which is probably why he is always changing his motto/theme in every album since he's trying to reach or cater to a fan base he doesn't have yet.

If Drake made Matrimony, it would have broken all types of Billboard records.

He's basically Cole if Cole hadn't found a way to "Crossover" and I dont meanthat in a bad way. He's got a solid black fanbase but not too many Cacs fukk with him, but you know what? It's cool because he's actually talented, he writes his own shyt, and he's got a unique style.

He's a bit too overly emotional but you can tell he really has a passion for his work.

not reading 8 pages to read all opinions, but his move to MMG in 2010 was a double edge sword.... he made short term gains catching the street crowd with the no hands feature and cosigning with Ross... But the people who fukked with him from WALEDANCE and Nike boots through attention deficit (his core loved that album) stopped taking him as "next" and someone to really shift hip hop, and he lost this group as a base........ shyt, im 28 now and was 18 when he was coming up, I know i felt this way about passionately being a fan and buying his products.... even though i do like his MMG stuff to party to, the MMG stuff pushed him from being passionate, to just wanting to be passionately "accepted"

Wale is stuck where he is for a two main reasons.

1. he's overly emotional, and has an extremely abrasive personality..... people legitimately dislike him as a person. many rappers are on record for not liking him or his music. There are countless instances of him acting like a bytch cause he felt like somebody slighted him. ( i.e. Complex, Bossman, majority of his time on twitter)

2. He's pandered to college going/young professional black females to such an extent, nobody else wants to listen to him... he turned off a lot of fans doing that shyt. especially post-Ambition.

It has nothing to do with his looks....it has everything to do with him as a person, and how he boxed himself in trying to follow a lane that had gave him success.

Honestly, Wale isn't anymore "whack" than Drake, Big Sean, Wiz, or Cole. Why don't Whites buy his music? Does he really pander to a younger Black Female Urban crowd anymore than J.Cole, or Drake? Honest question? Does Wale make Hotep music that I didn't know about? Do Black women burn incense to his music? I'm really not understanding why the Whites don't purchase his music.

Naw, most artist pander. I do think out of all the top 5-8 mainstream rappers, Wale while having the best bars is the least articulate and has the worst flow. With that said, he's a poet and understands Blacks and women. Therefore I have no issues with him.

He is big. When ppl name the top 5-8 rappers in this gen, Wale is always mentioned.

Wale makes Black music. Drake clearly doesn't. Cole does but Cole has this mainstream look. On top of that, his flow is good and he makes good music. I don't see how anyone can say Cole or Drake has anywhere near the bars Wale has. I like Kendrick but his 1st album is so much better than his most recent that I hope he isn't Nas where he's trying to top Illmatic. K-Dot was underground a lot longer than Drake, Cole or Wale.

I like Wale. I like the fact that his music is more realistic and not as negative. As a man, outside of my work and business, I deal with my girl for the most part.
