Why isn't Wale bigger/more popular than he is?

That was my theory. While Kanye, Kendrick, and Wayne all are dark skinned and somewhat short, they don't make "sensitive" music like Wale does. Wale just might not fit the description for the type of music he puts out. Honestly, what makes him worse than Jermaine or Aubrey? He's a dark skinned, short, Nigerian dude with dreads, making music that only gets mass consumed when its coming from taller light skinned dudes. Since Wale is a Naija, he might get better play from the masses if he had some one hit wonder type OMI joint, with an Afro-Rhythm. America would eat that up.
wale make better(substance) sensitive hoe music from the group (j.cole, big sean, kdot, ) , drake is #1 but he don't write shyt and bit every hit he every had

he should had way more fans after this dropped even big sean get overlooked

if you want to talk about conscious saying something real music/black soul that's not hotep big krit should be #1 out those artist

He's missing that 1 hit where he can stand on his own two. That was Big Sean's issue (not that he didn't have hits, but IDFWU was a song where you KNOW it's a Big Sean song and it's helped him out big time). On top of that, Sean's been featured on big songs. Wale really hasn't outside of No Hands. If Wale isn't doing an album cycle or mixtape, he's M.I.A. J. Cole is almost an exception to the rule except he's had big hits on his own. He makes very good, sometimes thought provoking music and he puts stuff out that not others in his position would (and still does generally well), but perception would change if he was doing more shyt in terms of features. J. Cole you could argue NEEDED songs like Work Out and Power Trip to get to where he is now. Wale needs that kind of smash

Who knows but that Matrimony song is the definition of humble bragging. He's not the first to do that "I'm going to show my vulnerabilities via passive aggressive bragging" rap track but it's definitely the most annoying. Something is off putting about his music. Can't put my finger on it though.
His personal insecurities in his music could be it.

His Seinfeld inspired tracks seem like they'd be a huge hit in White America.
that's more so a bad thing in the long run if you lose street credibility(black fan//core-fans) you be left with fakes who just like your music for the moment.

from future going too pop and had Hannah Montana roaming the galaxy with him or the middle 2000 when fif was say fuk the hood and taking shots at the south while taking too long in the U.K touring

Naw, most artist pander. I do think out of all the top 5-8 mainstream rappers, Wale while having the best bars is the least articulate and has the worst flow. With that said, he's a poet and understands Blacks and women. Therefore I have no issues with him.

He is big. When ppl name the top 5-8 rappers in this gen, Wale is always mentioned.

Nobody is mentioning fukking Wale as being Top 5-8 :heh:

Drake,Nicki,Wiz,Future,Kendrick,Big Sean,J Cole,Meek, ASAP are all bigger than Wale.

Wale straight up went from literally saying " I just want these bytches to understand that nikkas really be rapping"..... to making damn R&B songs for black women attending college.

Wale is kinda intimidating a intelligent african dark skin man with an frowning look isn't marketable to mainstream American. Plus he is a a$$hole.
S
Imagine if he did a album like TPAB he would scare the shyt out of these crackers

Jcole kdot drake or easy going light skin guys that or very likable
Kdot is dark-skinned and can be disheveled looking at times. Wale wouldn't be anymore intimidating if he made TPAB. I do agree that he doesn't necessarily have the "look" for the type of music he puts out. He may be intelligent, but he's hardly militant. He has intelligent yet poetic nice guy music.

I think he'd be a lot more popular if people didn't fall for some fake ass meme story about fukking pizza.

Bad and Lotus Flower Bomb were absolute smashes.

But then again maybe this whole "his looks" angle does play into it. Cause im pretty sure those two songs rang off harder in the black community than ANY Drake or Cole single. Besides maybe (Started from the bottom)

Yet maybe the chicks aint take those songs to heart, because of the man who was delivering it to them :patrice:

He just doesn't have that "it", that "it" is crossover appeal. What's the ONE song he has that people would know or ask the DJ to play? He doesn't really have one.

That's not a knock on him, he has a solid fan base and can sell out shows. Plus, he has a Jerry Seinfeld co-sign. Not many rappers have an actor or actress who aren't directly linked to rap who have this. (Toronto politicians just do it for attention, so they don't count).

But he's more known for his emotional outbursts. And that's his weakness.
Jerry Seinfeld really co-signed Wale? That's White as all hell. I'm late, but Seinfeld was really featured on one of his albums?
