And I dont either breh . He's on the national scale for a reason aside from music....Many hoes like his style and looks. We're just getting down to the GRAND NATIONAL scale and trying to see why he isnt BIGGER than he is. I dont judge dudes like that tho........
His delivery is predictable, and entertainment is rooted in the unexpected, shock and awe...
Back in '05 Kanye was on that controversial, talk-too-damn-much a$$hole wave, and I think Wale tried to emulate that, without realizing that Kanye had beatmaking talent, connections, and a production discography under his belt to help him bounce back and become loveable again. So when he went on his rants and shyt he lost alotta people permanently.
He also tried to jump in Kanye's "Superficial yet backpacker" style and I think he alienates a bulk of the fanbase of both sides. Not to mention, you're in a lane someone else owns, like someone else said. Then he made songs for the ladies and they stuck so he's riding that till the wheels fall off. But drake had that lane since your first album.
He doesn't drop consistently, so his relevance falters, and that affects interest in his shyt. And he doesn't have memorable media runs to make people look forward to him coming back on the scene. Everything you do remember about him is negative.
He doesn't pay attention to the scene so he makes bad moves. I mean maybe it's the label. But for example his first album was in '09 Drake had his first wave. Pretty girls was on the radio for damn near 2 years before that album dropped. Second in '11 that was J.Cole and Big Sean. etc.
He doesn't have hits. I mean, he has hits if you're DMV, I bought ambition and but he doesn't have "hits" hits
TL: DR - i typed a whole lot of shyt, but basically, being a rapper is like being a man, and the fans are the female, and wale is a "nice guy" competing with jocks, players, and fake hoteps for the same bytch, and he isn't doing anything to stand out from the crowd and sustain "her" interest beyond simpin and rockin new sneakers
I don't know what you're talking about with this "message board BS" I felt the MMG hate vibe before I even joined the Coli. And the Coli was the 1st hip-hop board I've ever joined. Post-CO reveal Rick Ross made him and anybody associated with him targets. Then the "Molly in her drink" line made him and MMG a pariah with feminist, whites, and the mainstream. Then there's the recent Meek vs Drake. MMG's been taking shots by many, and some of it justified(And some literally. Remember the Ross shooting). You serious?
Kdot is dark-skinned and can be disheveled looking at times. Wale wouldn't be anymore intimidating if he made TPAB. I do agree that he doesn't necessarily have the "look" for the type of music he puts out. He may be intelligent, but he's hardly militant. He has intelligent yet poetic nice guy music.
Kdot is brown skin with big ass dorky ears its nothing intimidating about that guy.
I'm talking looks & if wale was militant he wouldn't even have a record deal & he probably would be black balled.
Wale was never militant or very political but the poetic rapper that caters to women is what makes him successful if he took jcoles or kdots approach he wouldn't be as successful & that's fact.
Words means more than anything but looks will for the most part get that point across a little more clearer
I didn't know know Cole had such a fanbase till I seen Letterman. Middle aged cacs and Blacks knew all of his lyrics, not teenagers but middle age cacs and Blacks. That blew my mind. I knew he was a superstar at that point.
So what kind of guys you like?
You can post my pic from like 2009 I have no issue with how I looked then, and certainly none with how I look now. Think of what you are doing on a Friday night - seaching for my 6 year old photo, thinking youre going to "FRONT ME OUT" That's reality.
Of course we dont get to see yours tho.
1. Arrogance
2. Too pretentious
3. Non straightforward (Doesn't get to the point)
4. Mic Presence (Isn't compelling enough to make you feel what he's saying)
5. Too Sensitive/Emotional
6. Marketability/Looks
7. Voice/Delivery
8. MMG, His Label (Too urban for cacs)
9. Follows trends instead of creating his own
10. His Music lacks that "punch". (Usually raps over soft/downtempo/Drake-ish production).
And I fukks with Wale to a certain extent. I was an instant fan when I first heard Mixtape About Nothing and look foward to hearing Attention Deficit. While I thought it was decent, it was a real disappointment critically and commercially. The thing is, Wale has always been a cocky, arrogant MC but he was a backpacker/indie darling in those days rapping over Dilla/9th Wonder beats. Whenever he went commercial and started boosting and bragging on a bigger platform with MMG...the antithesis of the scene he left behind, thats when the dislike started pouring in. Wale was now seen as a selfish, self-entitled a$$hole with tons of wealth, women, etc
The only thing Wale has improved at is making radio singles but even that comes into question. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think he has made, crafted a hit on his own
But I'm not taking anything away from him. He still makes good music that I enjoy.
I don't know about that. The Body was Jeremih reintroduction back into mainstream and the reason of the Jeremih stimulus package. What was TT before and after Wale's Bad? Usher has been featured on a ton of songs this year and why is Matrimony the only good song so far even out of his singles? You underrate Wale too much. The man is easy to ride on a track with. Good lyrics, witty wordplay that keeps the listener wondering what they missed last time and is the ability to ride all types of beats makes him an easy catch for singers who do the hook to succeed with.
Breh I'm pretty sure TT is the one who wrote and made that song hot on his mixtape. Wale was smart enough to put it on the album after seeing how much love it was getting from fans. He even put Rihanna on the official song so that he could attempt to appeal to mainstream white America. I don't really check for jeremih and usher like that but matrimony is a dope song with or without walethat's the thing about wale and big sean, they don't really have an identity. Luckily big Sean was able to create hits such as IDFWU and start dating Hollywood elite females so he can reach that sought after demographic. To this day I haven't seen wale linked to one female in the public eye which hurts his appeal in a way to consumers since he is constantly making rnb love music. Don't get me wrong tho I loved ambition and more about nothing but his pre-fame go-go days were unique and original a la Nike boots and dig dug joints. But something happened after the attention defecit flop. He wanted that mmg rick ross/fat trel persona to him but we don't believe him as that tough guy no matter how hard he tries.
