At one point there was some balance. There were folks who were powerhouse vocalists and there were those with softer voices but with a soulful bent or those who danced. Now many of these artists don't have any of that OR stage presence.

I knew the tide had completely changed when (no shade) ppl accepted that Rihanna was a titan in music and compared her to ppl with actual talent. A girl with absolutely the least vocal ability, lazy and lackadaisical on stage but beautiful and with earworm songs. It's over when the new girls with vocal talent are diminishing that because it won't play to the audience.

All the new girls are trying to sound like jhene with that soft "I look innocent but I'm really not" voice. (I can't think of a word to describe it.)

H.e.r. can sing when she has to though.

Ultimately I blame the consumer. If you accept trash, that's what the labels are gonna give you.

Yea there’s actually people in the comments in the vid I posted asking that account to do one focused on the men but it’s true. The majority of male singing I hear is coming from subpar rappers masking their limitations with autotune and other voice distortion type aids. I’ve heard more “singing” from Young Thug, Yung Bleu, Rod Wave, and Roddy Ricch than actual R&B singers, and that’s a damn shame

One white man trick is dumbing down Black genius until it's to a level where he can compete as well.

By pumping money into lesser talents making them more "popular" than their more talented counterparts who don't have the shine, they can then compete.

When that lesser talent becomes the norm, they start pumping out their own artists who studied and appreciated the Black greats that came before them, in turn creating white genius in the eyes of the public.
