Why was 2pac praised, but Nas criticized for using this exact same beat?

Those were the reasons
full

I don't think people understand just how disappointed people were at the mere idea of Nas singing and rapping over a sample like that. The beat is hot, no fukking doubt, but those "real hip hop" dudes were hating heavy on it and the entire IWW album....

Guys like Stretch & Bobbito hated that shyt.

I always thought Nas jacked it as a way of saying "fukk u" to Pac.

Nas had enough time to switch up the beat but chose not to and i concluded he specifically took the beat from the song with the album title to let Pac know "yeah i jacked yo shyt" like Tim Dog did with that NWA beat.
Think Pac peeped that too. Didn't they also use the same beat on "if i ruled the world" and "fukk friends"?

It Was Written recording and production began first and that beat is Trackmasters to a tee.

Yeah. And there was nothing wrong with being a real hip hop dude in 96. It was just a different time. Artistic integrity was still a thing. People wanted hip hop to have rules. Characteristics. Ideals.
Now all that shyts out the window and we got rappers that mumble sing over shytty trap beats.
You tell me who won.
