Why was Mos Def's career such a disappointment?

Not even that. It's just the fact that it's been done for like 7 years.
it was abandoned not done. when you hear songs like the one I linked you know why...

plenty of bad projects don't see the light of day.

since that album mos def has done an album called december 99 that was so bad most people pretended it didn't happen.

so he was clearly not in a good creative space in that time period. hence why it's never coming out.

I was a huge Mos fan and then I saw him just after the Yasiin Bey switch and he was on stage giving monologues to roses and threw his shyt in the trash.

Mos had it. Which, sadly, allowed him to coast. He got too deep into character, speaking in his exaggerated blaccent, being a reckless alcoholic, and womanizing to an extent that would shame even a womanizer. That's pretty much all there is to that.
you speak as if you're a person in the know - does he really have a shyt load of kids?

5 tool rapper...but didnt have work ethic, became a weirdo, acting took his focus

He at one point had potential to be an all timer...could do conscious shyt, could do street shot, could do hooks/pop, was lyrical.without going over ppls heads with it

BOBS is still one of my fave albums regardless of genre..
shyt sounded effortless

I could tell he had no interest in true fame when he dropped new danger. New Danger is good just inconsistent and uneven. I saw him on that tour and it was full of folks who only knew ms fatbooty, umi says and oh no. They were like wtf is this when he came out with a full band

I loved it tho....dude even had Dr Know from Bad Brains:blessed:

Then he started getting acting roles so he wasnt focused...then he just got weird....getting waterboarded n shyt:what:

He rebounds with Ecstatic which is a dope album but cant keep momentum going

He gets weirder...now dude getting banned from countries:pachaha:

Mannie tries to work with dude but he too far gone

Even thru all that, he still has 2 great albums and one good one solo as well as Black Star....not bad for a guy who honestly.fukked off a lot of his career

He in my top 20 but he coulda been a possible top 10 guy with his head on str8

He lost it. His last 2 features(kids see ghosts, asap rocky)...he sound tired and totally uninspired

Mos just like Pharoah Monch suffered from that one classic album bow out syndrome. In Mos case dude went in deep with the acting which somehow became his entire aura, thus destroying what made Mos dope to begin with (pro black b boy MC). Then you got his skirt chasing, questionable acting roles, changing his name, and his lukewarm albums...it is pretty much a wrap for his rapping career because dudes like J Cole took that pro black uplifting persona and ran for the touchdown.

Not a disappointment, but it is disappointing that he did not focus more on his music as opposed to other things.

nikkah put out the Rapeover going at Israeli execs and its been curtains since..

Had little to do with his music career as acting is definitely more "man controlled" than releasing music or performing it for that matter.

Really I think it's that weirdness is good in healthy doses, Mos became too weird, all his projects post his first two were very mixed in quality and accessibility. And obviously focus, he was not as focused on the craft as he could've been. To be focused on so many different things you have to be very structured and calculated like a Jay-z who can set away a few dates during one month to record an album, then another month to tour it.

At the end of the day his whole career is legendary and he's one of the greatest lyricists, him being a weirdo just adds to it
