there's only 21 HBCU schools that play Division 1 football. And they play at the FCS level where they offer only 65 scholarships.

There's probably more black scholarship players in the SEC than at those 21 HBCU.

Where the rest of the black players going to play at? Division 2 HBCU where they only have 30 scholarships?

What about the black players in PWI FCS schools, where are they going to fit?

Not the big billion dollar money. Most HBCUs are small schools between like 4-10k they just ain't got the following. FSU gonna garner more eyes than FAMU off that alone. And FAMU is one of the bigger ones if I'm not mistaken. Plus those schools can easily create stars :manny:

These dudes are the top recruits coming out of high school and some are even pro ready out of high school with shabby facilities. All it would take is a 2 or 3 year span where the recruits had bad facilities at HBCUs. After that, the money would be booming at HBCUs. The campuses are much smaller and the growth/impact would be exponential.

I'm really starting to get pissed off at these threads. I found them refreshing at first but I realized these threads are filled with keyboard militants who do NOTHING as it is to support any hbcu's. EVERY TIME someone posts the reality of the situation they get ignored or deflected and folks go back to dreamland scenarios that don't even make sense in their heads. Newsflash!!!!!!!! If YOU are really about that dream life then YOU need to be doing a whole helluva lot more that what the average black man does for hbcu's. The idea that KIDS are going to be the mature ones and sacrifice THEIR career while the rest of black folks do next to nothing is beyond fukking stupid. For anyone that is REAL about this and isn't just some dumbass talking shyt because Sterling (a known racist for YEARS) has them in their feelings recently then these are some of the posts I've made in previous threads:

I like that so many on here have their hearts in the right place (at least on this subject). That said I'm not sure many people understand how college athletics works and what are the driving forces behind it. We've been in the midst of the biggest conference realignment shuffle the ncaa has seen in the past couple of years and people apparently aren't paying attention. The way things are going we could very easily see a split with the "fbs" schools in the next 5-10 years in which the "top" 64-80 schools seperate into their own division and the other 40+ schools drop down the "fcs" level. The gap between the haves and have nots grow every year. Power conference teams will be making $20-$40 million per year depending on tier 3 rights while cusa/mac schools are making roughly $1 million per year. How much do ya'll think the swac/meac make per year? Are ya'll aware just how much less hbcu's have to pay their coaches than even say a La Tech or Texas St? Do hbcu's even have the same amount of scholarships to give? Even if one hbcu in particular rises up what conference are they going to join? The way white people play the reverse racism card do ya'll really think they would let a hbcu rise to their level without pressuring the school to drop the "hb" in "hbcu"? I could ask dozens of questions like these but that's not really my point.
The way the system is set up I do not think it's possible for a hbcu to EVER compete on a level playing field as fbs schools. Tbh a hbcu would have to damn near move mountains to get on par with top fcs schools. Once again I like where some of ya'lls minds are at and I'd rather discuss a solution rather than why hbcus have next to zero shot of reaching the levels some of you want. I just don't think some of you are truly aware of how far ahead fbs schools are. Half of them (or us speaking as a coog) are scared shytless about being left behind. We almost went to a bcs game last year and next year we don't even know what conference we're going to play in. It's the wild west in college athletics right now which would make any big moves any particular hbcu that much more difficult to make happen.

Hypothetically, for something like this to happen I don't think a whole conference can make a move up. It would have to be one or two hbcus that are basically selected as the chosen one/ones (and how would this even be accomplished?). All resources would have to be dedicated to building up the programs rather than the typical equal revenue sharing models other conferences have. As I said earlier, the more successful the program got the more pressure they would have to drop the "hb" and become more diverse. I'm sorry but white people would not let a Howard get on Maryland's level and allow them to have the potential recruiting advantage of being a predominantly black school.

Edit: On a side note, as someone who follows recruiting I think it's been years since a big time prospect has even considered a hbcu. Last guy I remember was the qb from FSU that went to the Saints. I think Adrian McPhearson or something close. I want to say he "considered" famu because I think he had family that went there. I literally can't think of one guy since and I know I'd remember something like that because of how rare it is. Of course I am getting older though...

I wish I could make a longer post right now but I'm on my phone & it's a struggle to put together a sentence not filled with typos. I love seeing these threads because they're (supposedly) filled with dudes wanting the best for hbcus but I hate reading them because in actuality they end up being a bunch of guys quick to hurl insults at those with different opinions. Example #1,356,953 of what happens when we try to "come together".
Everytime these threads get made I post about us actually trying to come up with solutions but nobody wants to do that. Instead the closest anyone gets to doing so is stating their dream hbcu scenario. That's nice but you can wish in one hand and shyt in the other & well y'all know the rest.

Someone mentioned a fab five scenario. Well who is going to be the great coach that takes that young team with no depth past the first weekend let alone to a title? How will a school afford to pay him? How will the school increase their recruiting budget too get these athletes? Realistically many top basketball recruits are likely to want a little $ on the side so who will fund that? Who's going to pay for the full time nutritionist that's going to get those kids on a level playing field with the big conference schools?

I can go on and on but that's just basketball. Football is an even bigger uphill climb. I'm not going to call anyone delusional for dreaming but instead I'd much rather have a realistic discussion on how this can be done if it is even possible. Calling people c00ns everytime they drop facts on doesn't help anything. Realistically the SWAC/MEAC have next to no shot at collectively "coming up". It'll take one or two schools that truly get serious about winning in athletics (I mean from the admin to alums to students) and invest an incredible amount of money and time. Hypothetically if that did happen I seriously doubt pwi's will be ok with a hbcu having certain advantages over them. Call me cynical but I'd bet that school would have to jump through all kinds of hoops and at the end of the day may not even be considered a black school.

Damn this took forever to post.

I laugh every time this thread gets made. Same critical point gets made, "alums gotta give back" followed by deflection tactics. Then there's the "black athletes need to stop being c00ns and go to hbcu's" as if the KIDS are supposed to be the leaders instead of the adults.
Are you donating to the school AND the athletic department? Are you attending athletic events? Are you buying merchandise? Some posters on this site are quick to huff and puff but don't actually walk the walk. I go to Texas Southern games and the crowds are pitiful. I went there for one year and I donate. Out of all of the tiger alums I know only 3 or 4 have so much as claimed to have donated even one time since they've moved on. Real talk I bet most dudes in this thread didn't donate shyt to a hbcu last year.

Beyond that I'm just seriously at a loss for how so many ppl here are sports fans and yet have no clue how recruiting works. You can't put the cart before the horse. How are you going to get recruits without proper coaching, facilities, fan support, etc.?

I mentioned TSU, the head basketball coach has name recognition (Mike Davis who coached at Indiana a while back) and the recruiting base is ridiculously deep. Houston has too many black residents to not be able to get more fans in the stands. It doesn't take a packed house to have a fun enough game atmosphere to attract recruits. TSU should be running shyt but alums don't give a shyt. How do you expect kids with no sense of history to give a damn if adults don't?

And after re-posting all of that I'd be stunned if nikkas REALLY want to discuss what would need to be done in reality rather than in their minds because the process would be such an incredibly long process. Everyone in this thread would be dead and gone by the time a hbcu rose to even the MWC status. How many of you are about that life? How many of you are willing to do more than talk shyt on a keyboard about how some teenager should do more than you do?

Nikkas need to start dropping credentials in these threads. How much are y'all donating every year? How many games do you attend? How often do you call in to the local radio station to talk about hbcu sports (assuming you even know the names of 2 players)? How often do you purchase merchandise for your favorite hbcu? How many of you fakkits talk more about Texas and Bama rather than PV or Alabama St?

If this thread is somehow magically the one that gets people off of their asses then this would be one of the best coli threads of all time but I think we know how this one will continue...

Play at Alabama in front of 100,000 alumni and students, against the best competition in college football, under the best coach and facitilies in college football, and in front of all the NFL scouts you could want.

Or go to Grambling and wear 10-year-old twice washed rags, go on a hunger strike, and drive in a school bus to games.

But what pro hopeful athlete wants to go through that in the hope that sometime in the future his sacrifices may somehow boost a whole collegiate program? :wtf:
You trying to convice 18 yr olds to mess up their chances at money and big time college experience in hopes that a movement is started that doesn't really have a chance unless 100's of others make the same move and won't even get into effect until he's long gone? Squander his shot at making it so other nikkas will eat in the future?

5 star thread turned c00n thread and I don't need to read one reply. :smh:

Just some quick points though...

1) If they ALL did then the "elite" comp would be at HBCU's.

2) If they ALL did then the money would flow to those schools.

Sorry, I can't devote too much energy into threads like this.
nikka that sounds nice in theory but that's where it stops. You need to read that expose on boosters that came out a couple weeks ago. These boosters are literally changing these kids lives, they're getting their family members jobs, paying their rent, buying cars, fixing tractors. Nobodies singing kumbaya when their sisters a drug addict who needs money for rehab

Just like any predominately black school (from elementary to highschool) the funds seems to never trickle down to the people who's in need the most. But, no handouts right:mjpls:

Exactly.

Nice in THEORY. keyword is theory.

That fine booster at Clemson who is a lawyer and promises Momma a new place to live, a car to get around...vs the "prestige" of playing for an HBCU with little interest or facilities

When an HBCU sends a kid to the NFL or NBA its a wild success story

When Bama or Kentucky does it its par for the course

what exactly are you selling the recruit on? the facilities might not be up to par. so i guess education? welp some these kids not trying to get that much an education. they want to get to the nfl & going to college for 3 years is the way they do it.
now this recruit these 5 star kids stuff. say you luck up and can sell the dream to 1. 1 is not enough to turn your program around. so after what 3 years, 4 if a kid really like it there your program is right back where you started.....having to sell the dream and hope just hope 1 more would come

You sell the kid on becoming an Economic Mogul in his community. He will :eat: off the community he helped set up far longer than his playing career i.e. Magic Johnson (sometimes on a smaller level). His name will be over the head of banks, hospitals, hotels etc. and not just be a 'ball player'. We have to sell these kids the opportunity of becoming great Leaders of America...not just ball players. This is a mature approach & a cultural change that can happen if we executed it right.

Wasn't there a big scandal about some HBCU in Georgia or something recently where they pretty much used the funds they got for anything and everything but improving facilities n shyt?

So exactly what would you do to make ALL blue chip recruits of the 2015 class bite the bullet and go to HBC's?
"You might not get too many scouts to see your games, your training is gonna be a step above rec center, but on the bright side I won't call you c00ns"

These responses are exactly why I am ASHAMED of my people. No foresight. No planning. No unity. This is exactly why we're in the situation we're in now. You brothas have been conditioned. Even your conditioning has been conditioned.

If my theory the facts I presented sound good in theory then it would be beautiful in reality.

But it all goes back to your conditioning. You do realize the top programs used to not allow black people to play at all right? Once they started letting them in THEN the HBCU's stood no chance. But they could have shunned the white schools then and met them on the field. That would have completely changed the dynamics of college sports. The way it is now has already been established. What I'm trying to get you c00ns to understand is that if we stayed at HBCU's after integration, guess who would have been the powerhouses. Texas with all white players or Grambling with all black players? You talk about facilities but fail to mention that one of the main reasons white schools have better facilities is BLACK PLAYERS. Take all the black players and put them at HBCU's and FAMU dominates FSU. Southern dominates LSU. As such, the FAMUs and the Southerns would get all those millions that the FSUs and the LSUs make off the black players.

You talk about exposure and competition. Scouts are going where the talent is. Period. If all the talent was at HBCUs, then all the scouts would be at HBCUs.

You guys are talking about 2015 as if this isn't a century old system. Of course now it would be hard to get every black recruit to sacrifice and go to an inferior program but our failures began decades ago. This ties into that "Black People Are Cowards" thread. Insteada fighting for ours then and now, we just accept being accepted.

Like I said... 5 star thread but the c00ns are out in broad daylight. :camby:

You seriously think a 16-18 year old 4 or 5 star (future NBA/NFL prospect) recruit is going to pass up the opportunity to play for the most prestigious athletic programs with elite facilities and coaching, media exposure and the opportunity to showcase their skills against top-flight competition?

If you were said prospect, you would honestly pass up the opportunity? If your kid was a future NBA/NFL prospect, you honestly would tell him to pass up the elite programs that would position him to make that next leap?

350x700px-LL-a1093506_tumblr_m7e6nhXTxj1r5pin2o1_400.gif

How would you sell these 16-18 year olds on that? It's not going to happen
