If Nintendo had a good system, this argument wouldn't fly because it'd have ALL that. A more powerful console that has modern conveniences wouldn't suddenly mean Smash Bros would look like Gears of War.

No it clearly doesn't if that was the case the Wii would have established a great user base that would have adopted the Wii U. The Wii didn't establish a user base, it was an overpriced dust magnet after the casuals got bored of Wii Sports.
Consider this...The original Wii shipped and sold over 100 million units. The Wii U has shipped and sold less than 10 MILLION in North America and Japan. That is an insane drop...the original Wii sucked man. It's time to just accept that Nintendo cashed in on the casuals, but cashed in at the expense of pissing off the core. There is no other way to look at it as a successor simply just does not see that kind of slip for no reason.
The casuals moved on to phones/tablets and the Wii name only appealed to the casuals, who at first thought it was just a controller to the original system.
I actually think the Wii U is a good and very capable system, but that original one hurt Nintendo bad after the casuals tuned it out. The Wii U was basically DOA as soon as it hit the market as I predicted.

- Poor third party support
- no mainline Zelda game until 4 years in
- 1-2 great games per year tops
- annoying tablet gimmick
- horrible retail sales
- dumb decisions like no ethernet port on the back (explains everyone lagging online)
PS1, PS2, PS3, N64, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Xbox, Xbox 360 were all better. Even the Wii, at least that thing sold and had Super Mario Galaxy. Nintendo needs to step it up.
The tablet when used properly was amazing. See zombie u for example. But it was ill conceived and didon't suit most games. Even Nintendo themselves had trouble finding useful ways for it.You liked the tablet controller and wiimote?
Wiimote was fun as hell but again, was very limited.
But every time people count Nintendo out they come up with a Wii or amiibos or some new cash cow. Doubting Nintendo is silly. They know how to run a company,they've been doing it over a 100 years.
And saying Wii u is the worst console in 20 years is laughable. Wii u exclusives take a giant shyt on PS4 and Xbox one exclusives.

You buy a nintendo console to play nintendo games. Nothing more nothing less. They surprise with a bayonetta 2 type deal once in a while but nintendo games always make their systems worth the price of admission. You dont buy a nintendo console to be your main system.Oh okay. Wether its worth the money to you is preference. They arent charging an arm and a leg for their systems.
