This week details of how the spying is done is released and suddenly its "well 99% of us aren't affected so who cares. Its just Russian propaganda"

Theres no right answer to your question because both situations are despicable.
If I had a gun to my head I would say that CIA/NSA/FBI spying is worse. Getting shot by a racist takes one life. Spying indiscriminately affects everyones life. Again, theres no right answer and I don't wish for anyone to get shot by a racist or anyone else for that matter.
Government shapes our thoughts and actions. If they have an inside look into the minds of our citizens, they have a huge advantage in molding our society. They have been programming us for decades to accept the military industrial complex and it looks like its working. All of these spy tools and indiscriminate data mining of innocent people violates our rights and furthers their agenda.
I don't need someone listening in to my home and trying to use everything I say out of context to incriminate me.
I'd rather take my chances with the racist.

The problem is you could never find any real evidence of Russian hacking and the closest you could get is "attribution".
These leaks prove attribution is BULLshyt and can be easily manipulated.
This does NOT mean you are wrong in your assessment but it does muddy the waters and your full proof evidence actually has major holes in it.
