America needs to start recruiting in Africa and Latin America if they want soccer to blow up in this country. I'm surprised the NCAA ain't get into this, give talented players student visas and have them play soccer and get coached up for MLS or that Euro shyt.

What if he wants to play football, he's good at football and he hates soccer?

I would never hold him back from doing the sports he loves. But for reference my sons mom family are Canadian/ islanders

My sons moms played soccer at a high collegiate level, And his uncle played college and Pro. Not to mention his grandfather was a big coach with the youth clubs in Vancouver, his grandfather been working on his footwork since before he could walk . That whole side of his family loves soccer ( they also love football and like basketball too).

So he'll have a different background with it then I did when I was younger. I didn't get into it until my early 20's when I went to a Man U game over in the UK. Been a Man U fan ever since.

But I honestly think that every kid should play ATLEAST some soccer when they are very young because the footwork they learn can be translated to almost EVERY sport look at Pierre Garçon, or Kobe, or Hakeem Olajuwon or Steve Nash.

All those dudes played soccer and are very skilled with balance and footwork.

lol keep tellin yourself that:mjlol:....basketball and football requires you to use your hand to control an object. Your hands that you use for everyday use...to eat, to clean to clap. Soccer needs the use of your foot..which you only use for walking...you now have to condition both feet to control an object.....its hard. Im talking about all 3 sports on the elite level. Dont get me wrong i love ball and football to the death, but being somone who played soccer at the college level, its tough

You can look at the progression of MLS since its inception and notice that every aspect of the average MLS game has improved except for DEFENSE. If a country cannot produce its own players and have a high quality domestic league then that country will have a terrible national team. It's the reason why Mexico's team has fallen off closer to the talent level of the American team, but Mexico's league is superior because the best South Americans not in Europe play in Mexico. Back to American soccer...... The US can only produce great goalkeepers and our teams have been a reflection of that.

Until the USSF..........

Can attract players with higher intelligence & athletic ceilings(If you want world class players, you need both)
Get those kids to stick with soccer and not abandon it as soon as they're eligible for basketball/football
Get rid of the hobbyist coaches that cannot teach the game correctly. A lot of the paid jokers can't coach either......

US soccer will only produce a bunch of FIFA 2 & 3-star players that may beat a team that had a bad day or a rebuilding team but they'll never be serious contenders for a World Cup, let alone win it. The USMNT has had some unfortunate results that didn't go their way in WC history, but the US hasn't proven they can consistently field a team that can win a cup without A LOT of luck...... just walk-in and beat the s**t outta of the Brazil's, Spain's and Germany's of the world. Until Europe fears American players and respect American talent, we'll always be looked at as a joke on the international stage.

It takes more than wanting to, b. Wanting to isn't gonna win a World Cup. There are many more factors at play. You must be 12 years old.

But don't no one care about this fakkit sport. Hopefully an African team will win the World Cup this year, and that's it. Don't no one care about what cacs want. I hope Ghana crushes they team for the 3rd consecutive World Cup.

Ghana-Nigeria Final, callin it :noah: :lawd: :takedat:

Yea, eventually. But not until we basically ban football for being too violent (which WILL happen one day, unfortunately). lmao at the thought of a dude like AP on the soccer field. that's unfair.

You have to get a share of the NBA/NFL athletes, which means you'd have to get a share of the youth basketball/football athletes and programs.

America has enough assets/money/training to get the best out of its players, and I think we make up for a smaller % of young athletes playing the sport in that way.

I'm not sure we'll ever be a power, but who knows? Look at how far we've come. I remember in '02, US soccer fans I knew were like "This is the best team we've ever had" and now our teams would destroy that squad.

they do, i've known a few brazilians who've come here on f-1 student visas and play D-1 soccer

the thing is, if they gotta do that, it means they couldn't cut it in brazil. the coaching and the relative lack of focus just makes things worse

nah breh

athletes in the nba and nfl do NOT translate to soccer as a general rule. it's a game almost anyone can play with proper conditioning, but it takes a decade of detail oriented and obsessive coaching and training to be a top class player. there are no antonio gates or tony gonzalez stories in world football. there aren't even julius peppers stories.

the internet
the only issue is that our best athletes play Football/Basketball, then Hockey & and Baseball.
The soccer players in the USA are the leftovers.

If the main sport in the USA was Soccer it would be a wrap.
