Yes Messi and some of the other guys can make huge $$, but so do some cricket players. Hell, some cricket league averages are higher than some premier league teams.

Its not allll about the money though:

1.) Some people would rather play a sport in their own country
2.) Some people just dont find it that exciting of a sport

Soccer is a European past time, much like baseball is to us. I just find it hard to see a time when Americans adopt the game as a major sport.

You keep saying endorsements but that does NOT include endorsements

The 50 mill comes from thier base salary (20 mil) with bonuses added in.

Just like most of the NFL QBs on the list I posted they wouldn't be on the list if not for the HUGE bonuses they get when they sign.

I don't know if America will ever embrace the youth academy systems that create the top tier player. In America allowing your 8-10 year old son to move away to an Academy, or go with them,to devote the majority of his time to soccer is

But that's what it takes, being an elite athlete doesn't translate as well to success in soccer as much as the NBA or NFL. In the NBA a freak athlete can contribute without having much skill if they're willing to bang bodies and crash the boards, run the floor. Throw somebody like Tony Allen on the pitch and homie would be red carded in 5 minutes.
